My hubby is contemplating having 2 1/2 inch exhaust system and computer enhancement chip fitted to my Nissan Patrol 3 litre turbo diesel auto.
Are there any happy campers out there, that have had this done, if so, is there a noticable increase in torque and fuel efficiency, or has anyone encounted mechanical problems after doing this conversion?
Any
feedback and guidance will be greatly appreciated.

Marilyn
Did my Navara ( late 2003 ),,
Chopped it off just back a bit from the front of the front door, fitted the 2 1/2 " exhaust, into a straight thru hotdog muffler, and a dump pipe to ground beside the spare tyre.
WOW is all I can say ?
Now I can tickle up the revs easily with no lag at all, and goes like the perverbial.
Fuel consumption, is marginal better, still getting 10 -10.5 lt / km.
When towing, forget it.
Last trip up in the deserts, 6500 kms fully loaded up took 1000 lts, but I had reconed it would do about that anyway.
I use
Mobil Synth-S 10W-40, and she loves it.
No chip yet,, those little things are too dear for me ,, but if some of our readers can show me the facts, that it would save $$$ then I would get one,, but I would have to get at an extra 1 1.5 km / lt,, all round to justify it.
Cheers
Bucky

Hi Marilyn,
I put a 2.75 straight through exhaust onto my '99 2.8 turbo Nissan Patrol and it has improved in all areas. Having no muffler the turbo is allowed to spin up as it wants and it takes care of the excessive exhaust noise.
I didn't bet mandrel bends but they say that there is even a greater improvement but there still was a noticeable increase in power, torque and petrol consumption.
Well worth the dollars spent.

DTronic's work
well on the Patrol, there is one on eBay at the moment. I would not worry about the exhaust, most chips are tuned for the standard system. A Chip is a great mod and you can pass it on when you sell the vehicle.

HI Marilyn,
I actually did this to my Jackaroo. Just the 2 3/4 inch mandrel bend exhaust system added 30 Kw to the power. (Dyno tested against a standard Jackaroo) I was also thinking of getting the Chip.
BUT!!! what this did was exascerbate a known weakness with the Aisin Gearbox. Dut to the fact I have a rather heavy van, a bearing gave out in the Auto ruining the gearbox. The repairers told me it was because of my increase torque having nowhere to go when towing the heavy van. This Gearbox is the same as in the Landcruiser and jeeps which can suffer the same problem. I was told the Nissan box was not as strong as the Aisin.
If you had a 4.2 manual box Id say go for it...........but hey its up to you. The Jack flies now but still havent added a chip. And Im not going to use it to tow the big van either.
I just bought a 2001 ST patrol with the brunswick converted Chevy 6.5 litre diesel and Nissan 4.2 Manual box..............WOW!!!
Thats my new tow car.
Cheers
Geoff
