I have a Magellan eXplorist XL, loaded with stuff for good ol' Aussie.

We are going to the UK shortly & hiring a car.

What do I need to do if I want to take the unit with me, to use in the car over there??

(by the way, it costs heaps more to hire a car with a GPS..........such a ridiculous daily amount more, such that it was not a realsitic alternative).

Cheers

Get a UK base map and then load a detailed map over the top of it.

Same as you would have done to work the Explorist here.

Rick
When you get there and first turn it on it will probably take a while to get it's bearings fron S&E to N&W , also I would be getting onto the internet and see where you can get UK mapping software for it , I'm a Garmin user so can't help much other than what I have typed here,
If I were going to UK this is what I would do, I would go get one of these Mapsource City Navigator Europe Total inc. GST: $325.00 and have it installed in one of these www.ja-gps.com.au/garmin_quest_1.html from this place www.ja-gps.com.au/index.htm

Rick - when we went to Europe 3 years ago, I bought Europe Streets & Tracks which is the same program as our Discover Aus Streets & Tracks. I loaded the countries that I wanted into the Magellan Meridian (works with eXplorists as well) and navigated with ease - it was the best thing we did. You can probably get the Magellan Europe Streets & Tracks cheaper now on eBay. I think I paid about $99 from the USA.
Peter

ps - Not all of Europe is on the CD eg Greece is not there, but UK is included.

Thanks to all for the suggestions.

My first response is that for about $ 130 Ozzie dollars for the data file, I may not get a lot of value over the three week hire car venture. (I can still read maps).

Cheers again
