Rooftop security

In preparing for our big trip, have realised that for 3 months of travelling we will have storage bags in the basket on the roof and also lots of items in the back of the ute which has a canvas canopy. In the outback, no probs, but in towns, parking at shopping centres etc. might be dodgy.

Is there a netting type product out there with locks or something which I could throw over to ensure goods arent lifted, or is there another angle to solving this problem?

Hi vcbb we just travelled for 10 months had no issues. We used a roof bag where we padlocked zips shut . No dust or water . However we met a couple that were asleep in their rooftop tent while a wallet was stollen out of the 4wd beneath them they were at a caravan park in nt. cheers

Always travelled with a roof rack and just a tarp over the top.
Plenty of ropes sort of slow them down if any one is tempted.

Really a sharp knife is all that is required to slit the tarp or cut the window rubber on the car, or break a window. 30 seconds at most and they will be in if they want too.

Had a friend who got broken into in Moorocco in a camper van. Middle of a full camp site at night, 6 vans done in half an hour by slitting the window rubbers. Every one sleeping inside didn't even hear of feel a thing. Security is illusionary at best, or depends on what you count as valuable :o).

Best security you have is to be around and keep an eye on the vehicle if you are worried about a particular place.
