I have a 93' model 4Runner SR5 with V6 and manual g/box with 240k.

3/4 syncro packed it in and I need a syncro sleeve.

I have been advised that Toyota no longer carries the part here or in Japan and Toyota will not be producing any more! This was confirmed by the spare parts manager at Chadstone Toyota here in Melbourne.

A gearbox repair shop say they build one good gearbox from parts out of three others because of the unavailable part(s).

Does anyone know what the 'real' story is - this will eventually have effects on many Hilux vehicles as well?

cheers
Graeme

Personally I think that that is criminal.. car is only 10 yrs old and they dont carry spares for a gearbox?????

its not even a rare model!!!

I know someone who had a gearbox from a Jackaroo made up from several boxes, adn it died 5 months later...

Can you get the part machined up instead, I dont know what the part looks like, so have NFI, but I wouldnt go with the second hand part..

Or try Toyota in USA maybe.. They have heaps of Lux's over there.

Good luck.

Yeah,

it does seem strange, the Toyota region (Asia) is all online and they did not have any in stock and none in Japan.

Could have gone to USA but who knows.

Best bet I think is to go for a second hand box complete out of a low mileage 4Runner with a guarantee. Other than that, trade it in on something newer..

cheers

Call the Toyota dealer and ask for the part # explain you have someone in the USA that can help you out... Then get Bruce in the USA to get the price for you.. On ya bruce for offering.. The name says ya a good bloke. :P

I wouldnt go a second hand box, you never know what your getting.. 3 mth warranty, and it dies in 4 months etc...

The other thing to think of is are all the other parts needed for the rebuild available...?

If the part from USA isnt that bad, go with a full reco!

I just called our local toyota dealer, part # not is stock but available for $94.72 so you're better getting it from Texas.

Hope this helps.

Before you resort to USA let me check here in NZ. They were and still are a big seller here to the point that Toyota stock a lot of parts for the grey imports. The dealers yards sell more grey import versions than Toyota sell Prados.

Have sourced a part with your part number. Toyota NZ says it is off the syncro ring 3/4 gear to suit a 70 series Landcruiser. Part is available for $235 NZ $

Thanks to all you guys with your assistance, most appreciated.

I have decided to bite the bullet and go with a changeover g/box, 4Runner has been off the road 2 weeks already!

The old gearbox had done 240k so it may have other problems, the changeover was said to have done 60k.

cheers all
