Hi guys, just a quick note to let you know about my current 4x4, a pajero. I got it as a work hack, cost me next to nothing. It had good air con and it was diesel so i got it. Anyway I am not a mitsubishi man or anything but I have discovered a few things about this car which are really interesting.
its a 2.5L turbo with intercooler. It has all the mod cons inside but as I have owned it I have found it has a stock auto tranny cooler, it has stock dual batt set up. I know there is often some discussion about both of these here so obviously other brands dont have this stuff. it also has a power steering cooler.
Anyway today I turned on the key to listen to the radio and it was hot, and I heard the fan going, so I popped the bonnet and the noise was not from the front, so I put my hand under the intercooler and got a buzz as the fan hit my hand. I have noticed some new cars dont have intercooler fans (discussed on other threads re the 3.0L patrol) and I didnt think this did either. So anyway, mitsubishi must have been playing catch up to the bigger players or something by putting more standard stuff in their cars.
For those on a tight budget I think these cars are a good option cause you get a lot for the money, in fact for the same money in a toyota you would have a 60 series with less of everything.

Hi F4Phantom, my first 4x4 was a Pajero diesel, hence my nickname on here. I bought it for the same reason, just cos they are so cheap. You are right, you get so much in them, you can pick up an early 90s model with the captains chairs in velour, 7 seats, and they make a really comfortable cruiser. I know the size of the engine is smaller than the Patrol/Cruiser, but the ecomomy is so much better too, and to be honest, with low range, it will climb up anything anyway off road, and they tend to do better on highway driving than an old Naturally aspirated 60 series diesel, that needs to be downshifted to 3rd for going up hills on the freeway, and slows right down. I would say the same thing about LR Discovery's. A few mods and you can make anything good off road anyway.

I owned a 90 LWB 2litre diesel with blower, Padj. One of the best cars around. Unfortunately I thought it was a serious 4wd. It wasn't.
The engine wasn't powerful enough.
It was too low and I accidently modified the chassis several times.
The gearbox had expensive issues.
Oh did I mention it was too low ?
Yes it had a stack of lovely car like inclusions, including the seats on springs , beautiful thick carpet, electric this and that....
Not worth a pinch of salt on
Cape York. My old HJ60 was superior in every way that counted.
Thats my experience. But times have changed, perhaps they make a real 4wd now?

I agree about the ride height, have not heard of them with 2.0L diesels tho only 2.6L petrol ans 2.5L diesel (and the v6).
Mine is low your right but it also has 6 steel slide/bash plates underneath, I will be raising it too. Another difference with yours is
mine has loads of power and I can easily tackle a
hill with a large trailer in top gear on a 40 dgeree day with aircon full on. With no trailer its even better.
