Hi all,
Just removed my drawer system from my 80 Series, and thought that while they are out I will replace the rear speaker that has crapped itself. Does anyone know of a perfect replacememt speaker that fits
the spot and are robust enough to handle corrugations etc or do I need to buy a Toyota part?
Cheers

i certainly wouldnt be replacing it with a toyota one again.
i will replace the rear speaker that has crapped itself.
so its quite obvious toyota ones are not up to the task.
on the other hand ive some jackaroo ones that i have lying around you may have ive yet to find a stereo unit up the the task of being worthy of pumping sound into them
cheers mate

just pop into a reputable Car Radio retail outlet/seller and I'm sure will have exactly what you need

I am pretty sure the rear most (5th) speaker in an 80 series was a crude (and cheap) type of sub woofer set up, and only delivered certain sound frequencies. I am not sure a run of the mill speaker will work. May have changed in later models as the stereo heads changed ?? Maybe a quick chat to your local car sound installer will shed some more light on it.
Cheers

Not worth the effort....i put an aftermarket speaker in there and it was worse than the yota...which has its own mounting system to make you buy oem...keep an eye out for a good one from a wreck...see ebay....

Hi Glenn,
The 5th speaker in the 80 is a bad attempt at a sub woofer. You'll find it has a attached crossover on the back of it to cut out the higher fequencies. If you throw a standard speaker in there it won't go real
well. A lot of expense involved in getting it going again for little gain. Especially if your _Affordable_Storage_Drawers.aspx are going to go back in any time soon! If you are keen to fix it however, go to a reputable car sound place that has thier own techs that do installs and ask some advice. It's a reasonably unique set up I'm led to bellieve!

Hi all,
Thanks for the responses. I had guessed the speaker was some sort of sub woofer, so it looks like I will be visiting the local wreckers for a replacement. Not too fussed really, but having the speaker there will stop at least some of the dust coming through the speaker cover if not there.

I fit a set of 6x9 3 way speakers into my drawer cabinet instead... wasn't
too easy as I shortened the _Affordable_Storage_Drawers.aspx by about 3" to do it but the sound improvement was sensational..
Well worth the effort... but I tend to like the doof doof a bit so the extra bass that the box creates works for me..
Cheers

Glenn,
I did the same thing. i ripped out the old speaker and just bought a standard 6 inch speaker it will fit in its place. disconnect the wiring harness to the speaker and amp and look in the bottom of the panel there will be a two prong plug (which is for standard oe speaker). connect your new speaker to this wiring and presto speaker in rear that works.Hope this helps.
