Hi there, having difficulty in igniting the fridge on gas setting. In the past its been ok but not last weekend. It will work on 12 volt and 240 but not gas. I'd say the fridge is the original. Is there and easy way of finding out where the problem could be.
I press the push 1 button and then the push 2 button I can hear/smell the gas being primed but not igniting.

If someone can guide me that would be great
Cheers for now

Hi Paul,
I assume you have a piezo igniter for the pilot system. If so, it may have soot on it's end. Give it a clean and it should be ok. You should see the blue spark when pushing it in even if not using the gas.
If you are using any other system, make sure the gas is blown out of the van first, then use an portable igniter (a butane fire lighter from Redhead will do the trick) placed near the pilot and press your buttons as usual.
Make sure you have cleared the van out of old gas as it will make much more space inside otherwise.

If you are at all unsure or unwilling, go to a gasfitter for a checkup. Probably about time for one anyway to be safe.

I was a gasfitter some time ago, but the liability began to outweigh the income so I gave it away. I have seen the results of DIY on gas and it is frightening. Gas expands at about 250 times it's volume when ignited (with the right mixture) and if your van is holding the gas (LPG is heavier than air so it will stay in cavities) you may have a much larger van than before you started.

Play it safe and get it checked out.

Cheers Cam
