Our LC was in the VIN number recall for a perceived problem with the brake rotars.
First off it appears that the only problem to date occurred overseas somewhere but because it could be a safety issue Toyota is erring on the side of caution.
Went to book it in and was given 8.00am today. Arrived at designated time to be told that they would want the vehicle until 4.00pm. My sources had already told me that it was a less than 3hours job so I asked why they would want 8hours. The answer 'we schedule recalls for all day but most times we fit the work in during the afternoon after we have done the normal "work" ' Quality Service???
Needless to say I have been using my vehicle this morning and only delivered it to the workshop at 12.45pm. Have been assured that it will be ready by 4.00pm
Incidentally I have put some small 'security' marks on the rotars so I will be able to tell if they have been touched. Being a trusting sole I also mark all filters with date etc after every service so not changing during service is not an option.

Thats one very good thing about Toyota they dont muck about with recalls. I only just bought prado and has gone in today to get new rear axles, bearings the lot all payed for by toyota. They had one case in Japan of an axle cracking or some thing like that and as it is a possible safety issue they did a recall. There has been no known cases in Australia with this problem. Steve mate,
Don't believe their BS - there is no way on god's earth that they would be doing a recall for "an axle cracking" in Japan ... there are a hell of a lot of axles cracking for it to come to anyone in the recall department's ambit.
Cheers
Andrew.

Hi there Andrew, I might be wrong on the reason behind the recall, will ask my mate when he brings it back
home tonight with him. Either way I get new axles, backing plates, wheel bearings the lot so at least I know that its all new. Will let you know if thats the reason or its somthing else. Regards Steve M

Kevin,
I got my letter last week - I think it stated 3-4 hours. I'll wait for a few weeks then they can service and correct all in one go.

my '05 100 went in yesterday to get the bolts changed as part of the recall. i got a call about 10.30am to tell me that the rotors had cracked and they will get replaced as
well under the recall. they said it was the first they had seen with the recall. I had to wait another day for the rotors to arrive from
brisbane to pick up the car this arvo but overall - very happy.

I wonder how the rotors cracked? I think it was a previous post stating the 'fix' was to drill out existing holes to a larger diameter and install larger bolts, nyloc (or similar nuts) and a fair quantity of loc-tite.
Wonder if a drill bit could strike and crack a rotor........

and my wife says I'm a cynic!!! Now why would you think that a drill bit could cause damage? More likely to be the clamp being too tight and the drill bit jamming because the bite was too savage.
All's
well that ends
well! The baby is
home in the shed. All done in three hours and the marks indicate that the rotars have been removed and replaced so that's something.

Mine went in at 8.00am this morning and I got the call to pick it up at 11.00am.
Not only had they done the rotor bolts, They also washed and vacuumed the Cruiser as
well. I'm very iimpressed.
