We just received our renewal notice from GIO for CTP. We noticed that there was a notation on it saying there is "driver at fault in past two (2) years". This was in fact hail damage, so "at fault" was a stretch. Simple, one phone call saved us $40.
Read your renewal notice closely and save money, seems the way to go.

Insurance companies are counting on people not reading their renewal notices closely.

Hmmm.
With my last renewal, my Diesel Patrol suddenly and inexplicably became Petrol! (Of course a petrol would be worth less!)
What are these companies doing?

Must be 1 ef up ,,isn't CTP compulsory third party ,got zip /nix/ nil to do with vehicle damage at all , so how can there be a price difference of $40 ,max variation in QLD on the CTP component of vehicle registration only varies by $5/10 between companies touting for your business.

NSW has quite a few different insurers for CTP, but they take a few things into consideration to work out your premiium.
I always
check this website before I pay
mine.

Some of the insurers take a data feed from Baycorp for CTP. Most insurers supply motor claims data to this organisation. The data is not always accurate.

Never accept a CTP renewal - always ring around - even that company and you will get cheaper price on the phone as a "new customer" over a renewal. go figure!

Had the same thing with gio this week.
Mine was an 'at fault' windscreen replacement. Queried it, they changed it straight away and I would've saved about the same amount but the wife's on there now (25yo) so the price was about the same. Pays to
check up AND
shop around. Also on your comprehensive insurance.
Mine was down that the vehicle was under finance, but it wasn't, but I never did see that money again...

Are you talking CTP - Compulsory Third Party (Bodily injury) or Comprehensive (vehicle damage) I am lost? What has hail damage got to do with bodily injury?

Thats exactly what I asked earlier ,CTP has nothing to do with the vehicle being damaged so how can there be a rather significant $ variation in premiums ,

This is why they corrected it and knocked the $40 off. But if the driver had a at fault accident then this is taken into accouint for third party injury as they figure if you've had a crash already then the chances are you may have another and injure someone

Not in Qld ,all CTP is "tied" to registration renewal only so no way can a driving record or accident record impact on the premium you have to pay ,, you can be the worst driver ever and have killed a pedestrian every day that you drive but your CTP policy premium stays the same because it is tied to the vehicle registration NOT the person behind the wheel.

I think most are missing the point Chris is making, to
check you policy/renewal and save yourself money. Do you really think the chick sitting at her desk processing insurance policies day in and day out gives a rats if your under insured or correctly insured, it's not going into her pocket if you pay an extra $40 , or her getting away with paying the claim for only half the market value of the vehicles true value. I think you'll find it will be mostly human error, not so much that they are out to try and rip you off. And NO...I don't work for an insurance company....lol
