How bad/busy is Frazer Island over
Easter & the week after. thinking of driving up arriving the 7 or the 8th & will probably drive up the North end. Its been a few years (15) since I've been
1) Is it a night mare (due to the amount of 4wd) getting on & off the barges, Ques etc
2) do the hire 4wd & tourist trips still stop at
Indian head
3) Are the sand flies still as bad as ever on the western side of the Island
4) Can you still
camp nearly any where on
the beach (eastern & top of Island)

1) yeah its a nightmare at
easter, i never go there at this time.
2) yes the tourist buses stop at indian, the
campsite there is closed long ago
3) sand flies are bad on western side untill late May or so
4) you cant
camp within 50m of a creek or in other areas not signed. About half of
the beach is still ok to
camp at. look at the map they give you when you get your permits the areas are marked on there.

Easter is a shocker!
If you are prepared to go past
Orchid Beach you will find some peace, but don't expect solitude.
As said, there are regulations now on where you can
beach camp.
To be honest, if you can go some other time, you should wait.

Stay at the resort at King Fisher Bay and it is bearable as you can get away form the village idiots on east beach and back civilisation in the evening. Having said that there aren't too many people at the spots to visits like Lake Mckenzie, etc. Seems they are all on East Beach or Ely Creek.
A lot thinking driving while your bleep is ok on the island as
well...
We want to go back but not at
Easter. Another BIG tip don't plan to drive back to
Brisbane on the Monday via the Bruce Hwy it is an absolute NIGHTMARE! Took us 9 hours due to traffic jams in Gympie, etc and a !@##wit that rolled a trailer on an exit once the freeway started. Try and spend the extra day in Hervey Bay or
Maryborough.
This year we go inland to
Stanthorpe and avoid the crowds.

Easter on Fraser - multiple idiots committing mass acts of gross stupidity. Hell bent on cramming two weeks of boozing and hooning into 4 days. Barges out on Monday queued up for kilometres. Never ever again!!!!

Anywhere is mayhem at
Easter, never ceases to amaze me as to why...I avoid doing anything but eating chocolate
easter bilbies at
Easter.
One year we were stuck in a traffic jam near Mt White for 2 hours, Why? Because some "christians" had mannaged to get the F3 closed so they could walk up the side of a
hill with some poor guy pretending to strain under the weight of a styrofam cross...
