Hi Lyndon,

I bought a set and they work great, they are very simple to use. The military have been using a steel variant for years.

By the way your link does work.

Regards,

Matt

Hi Matt
Thanks for that!. We are planning on buying 2 sets as we travel solo. As they are light we plan to store them on the rack.
Did you buy them straight of the web or is there a cheaper option?.
Cheers Lyndon

Link works ok. They would be ideal , like everything there is a negitive in that they would take up a lot of room unless you could fit them to a roof rack , A bullbag airjack would take less room and serve dual purposes

$300 for two pieces of moulded nylon. I know a lot of R & D has no doubt gone into their design, and there is a fair amount of nylon in them...but still.

Does anyone else think that is excessive?

Hi Gav,

The reason I'm replying to this question is that I have great support for anybody in Australia who makes a product or service specifically for 4Wdrivers. Even though there are lots of us (4WDers) now - in manufacturing terms it is still a limited market compared to say making a widely used building product or a TV etc.

I think I am most supportive because its an Australian made product selling into the Australian market.

There have been comments in the past about excessive fuel prices or Bread prices in remote locations, most of us answer to that by saying - Thank god they are there when we need them, for if they packed up and moved to a more profitable location we would not have that convenient source of fuel and supplies when travelling the outback. They stick it out through the summer quiet times when they sell little or no fuel and they are still there when we travel that way next time.
As for the Maxtrax (or any great aussie made accessory)- gee thank god somebody went and made them out of Plastic.
The best question to ask is What would any of us want for them if we went out and made them ourselves and maybe were in debt to boot? And then had to design, make them, promote them and sell enough of them to get some return on the investment. Why do it in the first place - ??
Many 4WD accessories and modifications are over the $1000 mark and I guess that's because they just don't sell enough in Australia to make them as cheap as say computers, or LCD TVs have become with Mass Production.

Just my thoughts on this.
cheers

Hi Kerry W, thanks for that, you highlight some valid points.

I think you are right in that the market they are aiming for is quite small (relatively), and to make a profit the supplier needs to charge the prices they need to charge.

I guess I am a farily practical person (as most are on here I imagine) and sometimes when I look at a product like this and weigh up the material cost versus retail price, there does sometimes seem to be a very large gap between the two.

Perhaps that is a too narrow approach in this case.

Thanks again

Gav

Suggest you try a search on "sand ladders" for sale and see what you come up with

The UK Landrover forums will undoubtedly have plans for making them yourself.
They seem to love the concept in UK and Europe (remember camel trophy, they all carried them)

Lyndon,

I found that 2 are enough but 4 would be better although it stars to get expensive then.

I purchased my direct form the manufacture over the phone. They were good to deal with and a prompt delivery.

I also purchased the bag which will store up to 4 Maxtrax, it is very good quality but I think the price is a bit over the top and in hindsight probably not necessary.

Regards,

Matt
