Its about 7 years ago that I did that trip and we did it in 1 day. As a matter of fact, we went from Kankoban to Omeo via Corryong in the 1 day, so I dont think its a real problem to do it in 2 days if you want to stop and climb the Mt

Have a good trip

Hi John

I"m sure other's will answer this question as well, but I reckon it'd be ok. We did Mt Pinnibar at easter, and came down the track that took us out on to the Omeo Rd, which is I suspect the track you may go up. The track is pretty easy, fairly narrow in parts with lots of foliage, but it took us about 1-2 hours from the Summit to the Road, from there it was about an hour into Corryong.

I'm not sure on the tracks we used as we were in the following vehicle, but on the way up to Pinnibar we visited Riley's monument, which was quite a steep climb down and up - I didn't get as far as the monument as it involved crossing a creek and I"m none too steady crossing creeks.

It was a very pleasant day..

if you'd like to know more contact me and I'll fill you in as much as I can.

Jon,
Last January we went from Corryong to Omeo via Mt Gibbo, Tom Groggin, Davies Plains track, Poplars and Native Dog Flat. We stopped over night at Tom Groggin and Poplars, the last day from Poplars to Omeo was a short one.

You will have enough time if you are allowing 2 days. Best to check with Forestry/ National Parks in Corryong as to whether the tracks are open. We saw them on our way through Corryong and they we very helpful if you have reasonable maps they walk you through all of the areas out of bounds.

With the recent fires around Mt Pinnibar you may not be allowed into certain areas due to the danger of falling timber.

Happy travels.

Chris

There is currently (as at Mon am) a sign at the bottom of Pinnibar (on the Tom Groggin Entry), advising that 'all roads' are closed due to fires etc and will stay like that until it has been inspected (words to that effect anyway).

There are no signs visible if coming from Pinnibar down..

There were no obvious safety issues (IMHO) with the track or trees, and the track was travelled by many over Easter
Cheers,

Ivan

Parks Vic have published a reopening strategy for tracks after the fires: go to Parks Vic web site, Bushfire reopening info, and download the pdf file. Pinnibar is at p.18 et seq.

Mt Pinnibar Track is open from Mt Gibbo Track to Tom Groggin Station.

We found over Easter that the Road Closed signs have still not been taken down from some of the tracks that are open. Check with the Parks office in Omeo to be sure.

Three years ago (or was it four ?) after overnighting in the Burrowa Pine Park we took our camper trailer through the camp ground at Tom Groggin and through the river. It was our intention to turn left (East) and go accross the Davies High Plains, but that road was closed due wet and so we turned right and went via the Mt Pinnebar Road via Buenba Flat Site (shown on standard Hema atlas maps) through Benambra, accross the Hinnomunjie Bridge and on to Omeo for a cupponchino & sticky bun at the bakery. We then went North via Anglers Rest and shortly after turned left towards Falls Creek Alpine Village. We camped that night in the Alpine National park on the RHS sort of opposite Mt Cope, in off the road about 200 meters on the access road to one of the huts. All in one day, no problems.
