Aplogies for dragging your favourite topics up AGAIN, but would an Exide Evolution be one of the better choices for a second battery to run a fridge. (restricted on battery dimensions)

I know there are many variables such as how long in one place, generator, solar ....blah blah........., but just looking for something that keeps a small compressor fridge ticking over on a long weekend.

The cranking battery location is a big size, and i may opt for an Excide Extreme next time round, BUT I am limited in space for the 2nd battery. Currently have a small truck duty battery in the second pozi, but thought an exide evolution may get me another day or so running time out of the fridge. True or False? Could anyone put an approx amp hour figure to one of these?

Might consider a deep cycle another day, but for now thinking small, simple, and low cost at a Kmart sale.

Cheers

Buy a excide orbital AGM, small in size and puts out heaps of cranking amps.

Agree Lyndon , that type is my only battery but I think low cost is factor here and an N70 or bigger evolution at a good price should fill the bill for a while and not a disaster if it is run flat and dies after year or two.

NO fridge spec given so I'm assuming standard 1 amp per hour average use.

You need a desent deep cycle battery, try "POWERSONIC" we use them and they are very good, high capacity, totally sealed, small in size for capacity output and you can mount then on any angle.

High cranking batterys (starting batterys) are no good for long power drains and deep cycle batterys are no good as a cranking battery.

"POWERSONIC we use them"

What do you use them for ?

I am in the market for a new deep cycle battery and I want one that will not crap itself after 12 months .

Thanks ,

Willie .

Hi Richard
My Deep cylcle Excide Orbital puts out heaps of cranking amps and doesn't complain when run repeatedly flat.
Cheers Lyndon

Cheers guys. will look into all the battery's mentioned and weigh up price versus the frequency i expect to use it. The auto cut out from fridge should save the battery from running too low anyhow.

The auto cutout might save the battery from going DEAD flat, but it doesn't do the batt any good !!

Better off having a battery setup that will last the time that you want to use it for !!

Nothing worse than trying to get a batt to last 3 days only to find out the beer or food ( or both ) has gone warm after 2 days !!

If cheap is your criterea then get whatever Kmart is selling.

Look up the specs here.. Exide

I use a Trojan deep cycle. 100Ah in a 10" battery.

Get an Apollo Yuasa deep cycle wet cell 96amp hour battery from Appollo batteries at Seven Hills NSW .I bought one almost five years ago ($165.00) and is still working admirably.
