75 Troopy - Clutch noise

I have a loud vibration/rattle noise when depressing the clutch pedal at relatively high rev during gear shift. Vibration can also be felt in the pedal. The higher the rev the louder the noise is. It lasts for about 1 second while the pedal is pressed then disappear until the next gear change. Other than that no sign of other problems like slippage although reverse is hard to get in when the car has been driven for a while. Took it to a clutch specialist and they are not sure what is causing the noise without having a look inside ($$$). Anybody got an idea of what it could be and if it is clutch related or not? the car is a 1994 Landcruiser 75 Diesel Troopy (HZJ75).

I would have to go with a thrust bearing on it's way to heaven.

If a clutch specialist thinks that it is more than that, they should know. I would try another clutch specialist to get a second opinion.

Regardless, looks like the gearbox will see the light of day soon.

Sounds to me very much like the spigot bearing. This is a small bearing located in the centre of the flywheel that the end of the clutch shaft sits in. When you put your foot on the clutch pedal to change gears, the clutch shaft stops revolving to allow a gear to be selected (it actually allows the clutch plate to stop whilst the rest of the clutch that is bolted to the flywheel keeps spinning) and it's this bearing that squeals if faulty. Sometimes if it gets that bad it can sieze and you cannot select any gears (unless you are good at changing without using the clutch) and makes it a tough job to remove the gearbox for renewal.
The bearings are not expensive but it's the job of removing/replacing the gearbox that costs. Best thing is to replace all the clutch components while you're at it. Rus.

I have not had that issue with any of the 3 70's iv'e had. Perhaps mentioning how many km's the car has done will give people an idea of what may be relevant. Do you know if it is the original box or clutch?. Wild guess, maybe a stuffed thrust bearing?.
What does anyone else think?

the car has done 253,000 km. I bought it 16 month ago and I have not spotted any evidence of the clutch having been done. The clutch guy is thinking about spigot but is cautious about it.

At 256k a clutch would have given good service with a variety of drivers, you could get more if only driven by the one owner but 256k isn't a bad innings for a clutch.
Might be a good idea to get the gearbox mainshaft/transfer input gear checked while it is out on the floor as they commonly wear out in less than 256k.

I had 530.000 on the original clutch , it was still work fine when I had the box peplaced in Mt Isa , when I towed 85 Tonne it showed no sign of slippage , it was however replaced when the Recon' box went in .

Thanks guys for the advices. I am getting a second opinion today and will get the work done next week. Will post the verdict when fixed.
