Can anyone who has recently travelled the
Cordillo Downs track provide advice on whether or not it would be realistic to take an 18 foot Jacyco "off road" pop top caravan loang the track.
What would be the advice re taking the van along the Walker's Crossing track instead?

No, I haven't been along those roads recently but they don't change much unless you strike them soon after the
grader has been on its annual scrape.
Walkers Crossing track(if open) will be an easier run.
Cordillo Downs Road is renown for corrugations.
All things being equal you would probably shake your van to pieces on those roads due to the unrelenting corrugations
Its your choice.

We did the track in September 2006 and found it pretty rugged and remote.
[Just the way we like it!]. We would not recommend taking a caravan. At the moment it is closed due to flooding I think. We passed a
sign which said 80kph which caused much amusement as 20kph was absolutely speeding in some areas. If you do go that way have a stop at
the woolshed and
ruins. There are some pleasant creeks at intervals along the track but lots of mozzies at night including one that decided to take up permanent residence in my left ear. Thanks to
Birdsville clinic he/she was evicted the next day. Chris.

The
Walkers crossing track is still closed at the actual Cooper
bridge, according to the SA Desert Parks Bulletin (April 5 last update).
############
From Transport SA as of 13 April.
4WD Only
Innamincka to the Border via Arrabury Turnoff
Arrabury Turnoff to The Border - 4WD, small trailers, single lane sections, daylight travel only. Caution - road plant working over
Easter.
Patchawarra
Bore to Arrabury Turnoff - 4WD only, small trailers, single lane sections, daylight travel only. Caution - road plant working over
Easter.
Innamincka to Patchawarra
Bore - 4WD, small trailers, single lane sections, daylight travel only. Caution - road plant working over
Easter.
###############
These sections of the track north from
Innamincka have only just been opened according to Roads SA. A VKS737 member was bogged overnight in that region 2 weeks ago.
While now open, the roads are probably difficult re vans, in certain
places.
Maybe enquire with the Trading Post at
Innamincka.

Yes, it's perfectly realistic to tow your van down this road - always providing you drive/tow according to the conditions at the time.
Walkers Crossing is still closed at the present time - you don't mention when you are going tho.
Due to rain and floods both Cordillo Road and Walker Track may not be in good condition - depends whether
grader has been on Cordillo. Good call is to contact someone in
Birdsville and ask - makes a big difference to the answer.

Hi Willem, haven't got the new Ute yet, somewhere in
Dalby having the extended tray put on we hear. Hope it comes soon because old fella turned key in old ute last sunday and it klunked - he's dropped a valve. Not too impressed either - thank goodness he did it and not me or one of the kids! Ha ha.
Nice up here in the deep border area - just getting cooler a.m. and p.m. and need a jumper. Lovely. Hope all
well after big Exhibition.

Neil
We went through there a couple of years ago when it was wet. Came accross a guy and his missus with a 14 ft camper trailer bogged to the axles. Took us 3 hours to get him out and turned around.
If it's wet, I wound'nt consider it. In the dry take it very easy and start early.
Jayco's are'nt designed for corrugations.
Regards
Kim
