Hi All,
I regret to ask this, but aren't quite sure on the answer so here goes.
I have downloaded the
Robe to
Beachport plots from this site. Unable to open them in Oz Explorer. Now this would be because I haven't got a map that covers that area..???
Once I purchase / obtain a map and install it, I am assuming that I would then need to "calibrate" it and then the plots would open with this map in OzEplorer..???
Is that correct...???? (or am I way off base)
ALternatively, can I open the .plt files with mapsource as I have a Garmin Quest...???
Still learning this Mapping / GPS stuff..
Cheers
Shane

Don't need a specific map to load .plt files - but be sure you have selected "blank map" first.

Mapsource will not allow me to open a plt file.
In OziExplorer, I have opened the images downloaded from the "plots" on this site. I have a colour map with almost 1700 ish numbers (am assuming these are waypoints, not sure), but I cannot seem to do anything but "look" at the map.
Can't really manipulate or zoom in or view what the numbered boxes represent.
What I was hoping for / wanting, was a series of waypoints or a track that I could put into my Garmin Quest and then use that track for guidance once at
Robe.
Am I going about it the wrong way, or is it still achievable but I just have no idea what I am doing..!?!?!?! :)
Cheers

All information is in the help file.
Well worth reading several times over a few months.
1:
Not sure of the source for your files.
OziExplorer SHOULD open the files.
If you have no map for the area, open a blank map in OziE from the menu:
Map > Blank Map (Auto Scale)
Now load the track file:
Load > Load Track from File (Multi)
You SHOULD see the track displayed - Colour can be changed under "configuration"
If you have set map paths - again under "configuration" then right click (with your mouse) "Find Map at Cursor" will find any suitable calibrated maps.
2:
If you "purchase / obtain" the right maps they usually come with the associated pre-calibrated .map files. If not they are often freely avaiable. Calibrating your own these days is the (frequently) pain in the a*ss second option.
3:
Once you have sucessfully loaded the track(s) in OziExplorer you can export to .GPX format which can be used with current Garmin software.
Save > Export to GPX File
Several freeware programs are available to convert tracks and routes to other formats. May favourites:
G7toWin
GPSBabel
Have fun.

Shane,
Download the MAP files from the plotswap system - this will give you a pre-calabrated map image in the download. So you can open the supplied map and plot file. So download the map and then copy the three files supplied into the OziExplorer Maps folder and simply click load map and select the
Robe map file and presto all will be visible.
The downloaded MAPS from plotswap are fully Ozi calabrated and support moving map and all other Ozi functions. Good luck.

Shane,
I just remembered I had a trial MAP product in the plotswap system so download this and have a try. It is not the most thrilling map but should give you the idea. it is for Central Australia
http://www.exploroz.com/Pointplace/Plt/Dalhousie_to_Kulgera.zip - this file has been zipped and you will need to extract the files but extract them into c:\oziexplorer\maps (if you installed Ozi with the default options) then use the load map function. Good luck.
