Guy's,

Can I get peoples honest opinion on which light performs best in general conditions from open Highway to in tight bush environment? Which of these is the best performer in your opinion? I would prefer from people that have had both to compare but if not your opinion of that particular light alone....I have never had either light in the past and have approval from SWMBO that I can get a set of lights to replace the standard Nissan 100watt IPF's.....Thanks in advance......

Lightforce XGT or Hella 4000 or even the ( IPF Sport XS, I've had these in the past and they were very good)......

you will get lots of comments all leaning toward the lights the particular person has. at our workshop we sell all of the above, arb and tjm agents as well. so we get a lot of feedback, the lightforce is a good light but in my mind a bit fragile, and if you get the 240s they often poke out in front of the bar due to size and their mounting system, first roo, goodbye lightforce and big bucks. i would say the most positve feedback is for the rallye 4000s, steel bodied the best mounting system around, and will sit behind the line of the bar. ipf? not in the same neighbourhood.

Hiab,

Mate I agree wrt the comments issue but some information whether that be bias is better than none at all, if you know what I mean....I had the IPF Sport XS fitted to my last Patrol and found them to be very good. I'm a little surprised that the Lightforce and Hella 4000's are that much better again????

Thanks for the info, much appreciated.....

Ralley 4000's leak like the Hella HID Predators when you go through a creek crossing . Hella say that they are not suitable for this sort of work .

Good light if you don't take them swimming .

Rolys 4000's viabrated to bits!

early 240's had to have a breather fitted (I'll get round to it soon!) but the later ones are ok.. have a look at XGT's.

or give the blokes at Ironman in Melb a call, they have some HIDs happening now that are quite nice from what I saw on a midnight demo....

I have not used the IPFs but have used both the Hella 2000 and 4000 and was not impressed the 2000 rattled to bits and the 4000 leaked and damaged the reflectors
I changed to Liteforce XGT 240 about 5 years ago so this is the 3rd car they have been on and over 250 k klms not even replaced a light bulb. I had one light go out at Kununurra after over 2 years and about 100k klms when I took it apart at the TJM store there found a wire had worn through on the bulb retaining spring. I would have been happy to solder it up bt the TJM guys rang Liteforce who told them to give me a new replcement complete light. I have seen all the best types of expensive heavy lights rattle to pieces rust and leak water over the years. The XGT are light, strong, funtional competitively priced, guaranteed for life and made in Australia. Why would you buy anything else? Cheers Rob Berrill

I've had ralleye 2000 but kept braking the mounts to them so they are now in the shed. The L/force 240 XGT are on the Patrol now and I love them but they do not have a good spread (The Blitz are adjustable to combat this) but the best allround light in my experience is the IPF900. The IPF is just a good mix of distance, spread and robustness. Out west (where I do a lot of night driving now) the XGT L/force are a force unto their own.

Hope it helps.

Trevor,

From your info I can gather that the Lightforce are awesome in open highway country but not so good in tight terrain?

Thanks for the info, much appreciated and very nice choice in vehicle....hehehe

G'day Teabag,
Gotta be a trueblue to have a name like that.
I run the IPF spots and they do a great job. Out in the desert country 1 trip and another Troopy had the Lightforce so we sat next to each other to compare.
Guess what, neither got any further, but the Lightforce were whiter.
For spread I use H4's in 90/130's and there's nothing wrong with their performance either.
Spend the bucks if you can afford to.

Trev.. I had same issue with my 2000's but I didnt have the brace bar they come with fitted that mounts to the top - did you? I coudnt find anywhere to mount it to apart from drillin holes in the bonnet!? FORK THAT

Truckster,

I ended up putting the brace on the top in the end. It was wrapped around and screwed into the top rail of the bullbar and looked SHYTE. Like you said FORK doing that again.

Cheers. Trevor.

Bonz,

Thanks mate, I fitted them today and had to do the same....Did the test down the end of my street as there is a Horse track and open land....Well, I was surprised. They really do through out an excellent pencil beam. Impressed thus far.....Great to have that much light and in combination with the Fat Boys they work really well.....

I'll put my two bob worth in. Last year I was in the market for new spot lights.

I've had Rallye 2000's years ago and was happy with the light output but I didn't like the mounting system. A mate with the Rallye 4000 has the same issues so they're out.

In my mind the lightforce block a lot of airflow and protrude quite a bit in front of the barwork, however the light output for straight down the road is better than anything on the market, except HID.

In the end I chose IPF 900XS and am extremely happy with them.

It would be good to sit in a car with the XGT's and confirm that they are worth it.

Cheers,

MUZZ

I've got a spot/spread pair of IPF 900XS - think they're brilliant. The spot goes for a *really* long way, however the spread gets lost in the brightness of the spot. In hindsight a pair of spreads would have suited my purpose for local stuff, but the spot will be handy on an outback trip next year.

Hey Teabag,
That piece of poo in the rig pic has IPF standard Nissan issue on the bullbar. I instantly changed the globes to 130 watt. They are not bad and am thinking about getting another set for the new cruiser due in 12/16 weeks.
The centre lights are Hella 1000's spread beams which are brilliant for a mediam distance.
The outside are Hella 4000's compact which are sensational.
At Night I can see exactly what is going on in front and to the side...... Basically I can see up to 600 metres away. But looking at thiis thread I will be buying a set of xgt's this weekend to see what is the best combination........ I still have room for another set of lights on the roof to see which is best before I get rid of this thing. At the moment running 860 watts of lights on it, will be 1060 in 2/3 weeks. (I want the cruiser to be just right)
At the moment I can tell you the compact 4000's are the goods. But try your standard IPF's with 130 watt globes.

Hi Tea

The XGT's are great but check the size first to make sure they will fit.

The other option which I use are the Vision-X 220mm HID's. They are the best light I have used so far. Race bred by Vision-X. Race pictures .

I find the euro beam on the XGT and Vision-X lights to be excellent. They also use basically the same die cast alloy case as the Hella 4000 except the ballast is built into the light which makes fitting a breeze.

Regards

Derek.

Derek, These look very similar to Rally 4000's, where are they made and what is the quality of the reflectors? That's a pretty good price for HID's and i can say from experience, once you go HID, you will definately never go back!!! Is the quality of the light (ie; structure) to a similar quality as a Hella? What colour bulb do they come with? (4300k?,5000k?,6000k?) I currently have a HID conversion kit in a set of 6" IPF chrome spot beams, and they are a very good light. kind regards Kirsten NSW

They are identical, I use the Hella clear covers on them as the Vision-X ones are still on the way. They are supplied with stone covers like the Hella ones. Bulbs are 6000K and yes I will never go back to halogen on my LC.

I got Rallye 4000's and think they are great but if I hadnt have got a great deal on them ,there's no way I would pay that amount of money for them or any light for that matter.
In the dealer ship where I used to work we did alot of truck work (road trains all over the Kimberley)and 95% of all trucks usually had 4 Rallye 4000's hanging of the front and we never had to touch them, std headlights were a common service item but not the spotties.
I had a set of cheap $100 spotlights on my 4 runner and they were a great light, they did 20000kms on some of the roughest roads in Australia and never missed a beat(even under water).
Most spotlights are way over priced IMHO.

Have noticed there is no mention of Narva 170 Driving Lights. I have had two sets of these on two Cruisers & they are quiet good lights. When I hit a roo at 100k's & it demolished my left spotlight, the impact on the steel ARB was so great that the right one's reflector& glass jumped out in protest & was hanging by it's wire. When I mentioned this by letter to Narva they sent me another light for free. I have a Lightforce SL 240 hand held spotlight & when you converge this light into my driveing lights in the paddocks there is minimal difference.

outbackproven.com.au have Lightforce Blitz 240 for around $330 - plus antitheft nuts, pretty cheap, a great all round light, good after market service, and fit a standard Nissan Gu steel winch bar without protruding past the rubber bumperettes.

To all,

Thanks to everyone for their valuable input to assist with my decision....I just installed a set of Lightforce XGT's which look really good though I will have to wait until tonight to finish the set-up in getting them pointed where I want.

Reason for Lightforce XGT:

1. Water proof which is very important....
2. Versatile because of the lens covers can suit just about all situations.
3. Strong, by all reports.
4. Quality light wrt distance of light....

I don't doubt that the other lights would do this or similar but for me this was the best option. It takes nothing away from the other brands of lights but for my purpose and on the recommendation of many I thought the XGT's would fit the bill.....I guess time will only tell if this was a wise choice...

Thanks again for all your input, it is greatly appreciated.....
