Gday
Nothing could be found in archives, im thinking of buying a second hand explorer fridge that has a seperate 20 litre freezer inside the cabinet, and a 36 litre fridge section. There are two external temp gauges and it looks just like a trailblazer externally...
Has anyone owned one of these to give me an appraisal?
Its not cheap, but it looks the goods for extended camping trips.

I hvae the DC45 which is 15l freezer and 30l fridge. It is fantastic, has never let me down. But you know it's not like a home freezer, no blower so takes longer to freeze and the coldest is of course at the bottom, in fact it takes quite a high setting to have stuff at the top of the freezer stay frozen.

But you know at the end of a fishing trip you can turn it down to zero and the freezer will be at like 1C and the fridge section at about 10C for bread and fruit and veges which means bugger all power use. I guess you have to compare it to the ABR one advertised on the right and i think Engel put one out similar. I have heard people say the soldering is average but hey, soldering works or it fails, mine hasn't failed so can't complain.

The insulation is excellent, it's as strong as, and works as expected.

Have had it about 4 years now.

Gidday Andrew, we have the 70 lt Explorer, have had it for 18 months no problems so far , it hasn't been turned off since we bought it , lives in the back of the Patrol ute. Explorer uses the same compressor as the trailblazer , danfoss , we wanted a fridge and freezer section, at the time of purchase this was the only unit we could find that had seperate thermostate controls for each. Also have a mate that does tag-a-longs has had a 90 lt explorer for about 2 years, in that time has done Madigan line, Hay river-Lake Eyre, at least 2 x Simpson trips, Gunbarell , CSR, Kimberley , and a Cape York trip and no problems. As you have said they are not cheep. On the last four of those trips also tested a National Lunar fridge , seemed to also be very good and drew a little less power than the explorer, again they are not cheep, also they are imported so don't know what parts availability is like , the explorer is made in Capalaba in Brisbane.

See ya
Guy
