Due to replace tyres on my Navara ST-X TD from the crap that is was fiited with when new but I am getting different opions from various tyre dealers. I want to fit the largest I can to improve clearance ( yes i know I should do it properly but I haven't got the $2000 available for that plus tyres!)
So can anyone advise what is the max size I can fit. Local tyre dealer suggests 265/75/16 ( 804 mm Diameter) BFG AT's but another suggests 285/75x116 (834 mm diameter).
Originals are 255/70x16 (764 mm Diameter) and rim size is 7.5".
Please no discussions regarding pro' s and cons of Cooper vs BFG etc! (unless its relevant to size/clearance).

Hi Andrew
I found that it was cheaper to get a set of 15x7 or 15x7.5 rims an get tyre's for them as 16inch where alot dearer, had 31x10.5x15 found them to get more width and height but you should remember it will lack more up hills with the bigger diameter also put more strain on steering gear,With the old navara i had i found 30x9.5x15 ,wide up the front end a little easy to do,gave the best allround performance with that bit of height,it gives you that bit more ground clearace but travel thats another ball game well in the front end .
hope any of this helps
Cheers patnav

Hello Andrew. I have the same vehicle as you.

At the Wandin 4x4 show in Feb. Opposite Lock, Preston had a white D40 RX Navara that I'm sure had bigger than standard rubber on it. From memory I can't remember whether it also had a lift job. Perhaps a call to them may help you with your choice of tyre size. I remember when I looked at the size of the tyres that they had fitted I must have had a puzzled look on my face because one of the boys came up to me and said "no they don't rub". I'm pretty sure they were 285/75x16.

All the best with the new rubber.

Wayne.

If you are in Qld and you want to stay legal and keep your insurance company on your side you can only go 15mm bigger than whats on the tire placard. This rule probably is for all states, not sure. Saying all this Iam about 4mm over on my MU, just thought you may not no this rule.
Cheers Bruce.
