I think my problem is that I don't want to acknowledge the fact that $1000 worth of amps lay dead in my garage. For those of you who remember the dramas I had with the Mav, after getting it
home, I noticed an oily substance on the amps ( and an empty motor oil bottle :(( ), and after trying both of them, have concluded that both are in amp
heaven. However, is there anything I can try/replace that may allow them to work properly? It may be a longshot but any suggestions are welcome. I'm trying to source a working amp to rule out there being any wiring issues. As is stands, one of my mates suggested changing all the fuses so ill give that a go and see what happens.
Cheers, Anand.

I presume amp = amplifier?? Saturate all of the amp including the printed circuit boards with water and dishwashing detergent (definitely not DISWASHER powder/detergent). Paint on with a brush and work in thoroughly. Then use a Gerni at lowest pressure setting and blast all muck of PCBs, etc. Ensure everything looks like new in that it is so clean. Heat in an oven at precisely 49 degrees Celsius for 30 hours.

I'd be trying "Contact Cleaner" saw something similar with a cup of coffee once and contact cleaner did the trick. Good luck.

That was me I can't stand that boom boom noise. I added some molecular transfer liquid to the cloud seeding that's been happening in your area, you need rain right! anyway what it does is make all the amps the produce the boom boom go BOOM

Hows it going ,
I reckon the damage is done by turning them on wil the oil all over them , hopefully the fuses have protected them.
You can clean them in something like Isopropyl alcohol , you will need to strip them down and use a brush , if you get a thin 1" paint brush and cut the bristles so it leaves about 1/4 of original length it will make like a mini scrubing brush.
After your done you can dry with compressed air or just leave to air dry .
Hope this helps you out .
Glenn.

Newbie just a thought do you have a mulit meter if not get one the cost of replecing all the fuses may just pay for a cheap meter
test all your fuses (1 at a time so you remember which fuse went where) on continuity if all in contact turn your meter to dc volts and
test voltage going to amp (leave amp disconected while testing) if you have your old head unit with the inbuilt amp
test your speakers with this.
As mentioned above pull amp apart and clean with isotopal alchol this stuff just evaporates.
just curious where have you got your amps mounted?
I hope this helps lets us know how you get on
cheers Stephen

its briliant stuff.
had a jeep a few weeks ago power windows wouldnt work all the time
pulled the plugs of the switches gave them a couple of sprays all works great.
i had a stereo in our car that played up a bit(flip out head)sometimes volume wouldnt work couldnt push play ect.
after using it on the jeep and seing it work i tried it on our stereo.
that was a month ago and still going fine.

Please re-read what I wrote earlier today. On no account use iso propyl alcohol or any other solvent as suggested by others. If you do, you will dissolve all the printed circuit board varnish and varnish off any enamelled wire. I have provided you with the correct industry method of recovering electronic equipment after an environmental catastrophe. I have experience in this field after a $30M fire.

Yeah ditto to that, melted boards are not a good thing. There are some that will literally eat plastic, its a very sad lesson that I have learnt the hard way as
well.

Hows it going Mr Cow ,
I am an Avionics engineer , the only thing we are allowed to clean elctronics with is Isopropyl Alcohol because it is gentle and doesnt leave any deposits behind when it drys.
Other products such as canned contact cleaner , white solv etc desolve plactics easily !
All 'varnish' used on circiut boards should be like resin which needs to soak in paint stripper to remove it , havent done that for about 15yrs but cant imagine that it has changed that much.
Glenn.

The Sacred Cow is on the money, be very careful with solvents.
They strip the varnish off PC boards.

Righto Crow if you aren't giving me a bum steer then I'll give it a go. Wasn't sure if you were having me on or not. So one question remains, do i bake the amp or grill it :))
Cheers to everyone for all the info and I'll let you know how it finishes up (or drive within 5k and you will hear me:)).
Cheers, Anand.
