Hi Guys

I hav the rf60 model: Here goes

Wheres the best (exact) position to stick this evakool thermometer on the fridge !

What setting do you use to keep the milk, sausages etc cold enough, basically just as a fridge...before it starts to freeze

At what setting does this fridge start to freeze.

and finally do you just pack away for next trip (and do you keep lid open a bit) or do you use for home for drinks etc... Is it best to keep it going all the time...

Covers.. Ive seen the Evakool cover for this unit and was advised its not crash hot and the person would certainly not pay the $160 for it,they threw his in..
He advised me to get a canvas one done, what are your thoughts on this..
Its just for travelling protection thats all

cheers

Have an ED60 and found between 4 and 5 on the thermostat good for keeping things cold (milk etc) 7 to 10 tends to freeze the beer, wont take to long to work out best setting (frozen beer, sour milk if u get it wrong)
I keep the fridge in the back of the 4be most of the time, when she who has to be obeyed goes shopping she can put the ice cream etc in fridge then go to the pub for a scotch without the problem of meltdown
Rolled the Nissan 6 months ago , 3 weeks in hospt.car stuffed,me stuffed,fridge still working,who needs a cover
Enjoy Graeme

agreed, cigy lighter plug broke first time we used it.

Have got a cover and nothing wrong with it, does not provide any insulation, just protects the fridge, so if you want one, getting one made out of canvas might be a cheaper option.

Just leave it in the car then it gives you an excuse to go away for the weekend because you need to give the fridge a run!

About 3.75 to 4.5 on my unit. 0.0 to 0.5 degC near plate to 4degC at the opp. end near top. Above 4 to freezes anything near the cooling plate (good for putting meat against, milk middle and vegies at the opp. end of fridge.)

My RF60 has no markings on the thermostat dial.

I run it with the dial betwen 6 and 7 o'clock. Freezer stays frozen and fridge seems fine.

I bought a Jaycar one which measures inside/outside temp.
Just throw the sensor into the bottom of the fridge, gives me reading of the fridge temp and the ambient temp too.

Hi Growler

Yes rang Evakool and the lead goes in the fridge with sensor, roughly centre at about half way up or halway down lol, the digital thermometer stays outside, but the inside temp is actually the outside temp and visa versa with the evakool one...

also looked at the ciggy lighter connection and its looks strong to me,went to an autobarn and got them to look up hella one and they look identical, whether the newer fridges have better quality connection's i dont know but am going to order it anyway as a spare..

cheers

Hi warfer69,

I have the 70 litre Evakool Fridgemate with the Evakool thermometer.

I have the sensor about halfway up in in the fridge end as suggested. I have been doing a lot of experimenting with the thermostat position and temperatures in my fridge for the last couple of months. I have been using an ampmeter to try and find the most ecnomical position in varying temperatures.

I had found that the freezer was at about -13c when the fridge was at about +7c. Mine has the centre removable divider with 5 small holes in it to allow the cool air from the freezer to get through to the fridge.

I won't go into all the detail but so far I have found that if I space the centre divider up by 1mm, I can run the unit on position #5 in economy mode on a 30 degree day and it will maintain -10c in the freezer and +3c in the fridge. At these settings the motor will cycle at about 50/50 and it will use no more than 30 amps per day which I am very happy with.

Note// If you space the centre divider up too high >3mm - the fridge end will get too cold and freeze.

My best mate has exactly the same fridge as yours and he has fitted a 12volt computer fan in the top of the centre divider to throw more cold air from the freezer to the fridge. He has wired it up to the compressor and so it cycles on and off with the motor. By doing this he has also been able to reduce his thermostat setting and the fan adds bugger all to his power consumption.

Yell out if you have any more questions mate.

Regards,
Brett
