Rattle

I recently had an Outback drawer system transferred from the old Prado to the new car (same model Prado). Since then, there has been a persistent rattle, from what sounds like the passenger side drawer.

This happens even if all the gear has been taken out. I've also checked the fridge and the two back storage areas.

Is there an anti rattle gadget that could have been left off in the re-installing process?

G'Day Kim,

The _Affordable_Storage_Drawers.aspx move along roller bearings top, bottom and sides.

If you are getting a rattle it is because one of these is not as tight fitting as it should be, my suggestion would be the side rollers.

Try moving the draw up/down and side to side.

Hopefully you will find the culprit

Hi Rolande

I've all ready tried that. It sounds more like a sheet metal rattle.

Kim,

You say that you "had an Outback drawer system transferred" from one vehicle to another. I presume that you did not do it yourself. I found that I learned a lot about mine by simply removing the top (after removing the cargo barrier). When you can see the drawer rollers and bump stops etc, you get a good idea how it works (very simple). There are a couple of rollers and stoppers that you can play around with.

I don't suppose that something has dropped down under the unit or alongside the outer panels where it may be out of sight?

I have found that the only real weakness with the Outback system is if something gets dislodged from a drawer and you can't pull the drawer out far enough to remove the object. This is a real timewaster if it happens on a trip. You have to virtually disassemble the unit so that you can close the drawer if it is jammed.

I hope this helps with your rattle.

Thanks Kingo

Your probably right. I'll have a talk to the guys who re-installed it, but at the end of the day I think it'll finish up as my problem to fix.

Gday Kim,
Are'nt rattles a bugger to find, I reckon when you got a problem you cant sort you need to see the professionals.
Im not sure were you live and what type of buisnesses are in your little village but I reckon you would know what a Barista is. (I just read the paper and found out myself). If you dont know one.....
Try putting a tea towel in between you perculator and the lid when you pack it away! Or stop trying to take a bloody Latte machine out bush!

Hairy

Your comments are bordering on sympathy. Is this a change of character?

Dog ate the latte machine last weekend, buggar!

Found out the rattle was coming from my bones, rather than the drawer system.

Had some rain in the Village over the weekend. Damn this Global Warming!

LOL

Kim.

At the rear on each side of the drawer track is a bump stop. Mine are red in colour.

These also stop the drawer coming out when opened.

To access them you need to remove the top deck of the drawer system.

They are held in place with two screws each. One of these stops maybe missing.

Does the drawer have any play in it when pushed in??? This could indicate if one is missing. Otherwise remove the top and have a look.

Maybe a bolt floating around in there somewhere.

I installed my outback _Affordable_Storage_Drawers.aspx myself and although a bit of fiddling due to learning as you go the only rattles are from stuff in them.

Cheers
Garth
