There has been a lot of debate on the best diesel & petrol engine oils in this forum with different opinions all over. However if you go to post ID 2889 in the forum achives you will find a good discussion on it. Hope you don't get too confused. Cheers.Have Wheels Will Travel

Theratt
I've got the 3lt TD Patrol and I know Nissan in my hometown uses Castrol Magnatec grade type oils in all the vehicles they service. I say type oil because it isn't exactly the Magnetec but something very similar. If your like me and like to use the same oils always and from a local auto shop then the nissan's oil is no good because the distributors only supply it in bulk to the nissan dealerships. You can buy it from them but at an inflated price of course. I rang the Castrol hot line and discussed my needs with them and they suggested the GTX3 would be a suitable oil. So now I do all my own oil changes with the GTX3 even when I take it in for the scheduled services to ensure the warranty. Nissan don't have a problem with me doing the oil changes because I explained that I wasn't in favour of mixing oils even if it is the same brand.
On the issue of what is the best oil. My belief is that just about any good quality oil is good and will prolong the motor life as long as you don't swap viscosities or brands. I have proven this with my past 2wd cars I've owned. They have given me hundreds of thousands kms with no problems at all.
Hope this helps

Not being picky- just curious...
Why would you GTX3 rather than a DEDICATED diesel oil eg: RX Super, Shell Rimula, Penrite Diesel etc.
Surely oils aint (diesel) oils......

My Nissan dealer sells Nissan's oils in 5 ltr containers....

Im also lost as to why you wouldnt use a diesel rated oil, also a with a turbo, hope nothin goes wrong, with the way Nissan are with warranties, you could have zero chance.

How do I tell if it is CM grade oil - is it written on the container. What does this mean as I have not heard this rating before.

Thanks
