My 2003 3.0L Auto Patrol spends probably a quarter of it's time off the bitumen, I had the transmission oil changed at 80,000km. I am now up to 120,000 km and looking through the Nissan service book I don't ever need to change it unless it is operating under severe operating conditions for most of the time. The
Gregory's manual says every 80,000km, while the local mechanic says every 40,000km. How often are other people changing the AT oil, and should I just get an AT specialist to do it instead of spending $80 on Penrite Oil?
Thanks in Advance.
Snowy

There is bound to be someone with more knowlege on autos then me but I would just
check the colour & smell of the oil on the dipstick. If it does not have a burnt smell and is clear and
bright then it is probably ok. If does have a burnt smell and is dark then it may indicate clutch (auto) trouble.

donks , the sad thing is that you dont even know / or will admit that you got ripped off , ,dont you wonder why out of all the other
forum users YOU are the ONLY one to pay $350 for an auto box oil change , what makes YOUR oil so special that you pay this money for when there are 100s of the SAME vehicle and the TOTAL oil change cost should be 1/3rd of what YOU pay ???

shop floor for your weekly pocket money and continue to dream.

snowy i change my oil every 5000 kms and the oil filter at 10000kms and i now only use the nissan recommended oil in my 2004 series 4 / 3.0 td - with the nissan oil the engine runs smoother and freeer in my opinion but the oil in 4 litre containers it is a bit exe though from nissan dealers - i change my own oil at 5000kms and then have it
services and oil changed by a local dealer at 10,000 kms who do an ok job - seems to work for me as never had a prob and now on my 2nd 3.0 td first one was a 2001 series 11 that did 127 kms trouble free
my best greg

I was asking about transmission oil, I have been told by Nissan that it is not necessary to change the engine oil every 5000km now with the low sulphur diesels.

sorry mate i should have read the question properly shoudnt i
i only change my transmission oil and diff oils after when i go thru really deep water and / or at the recommended service oil change intervals and yes i know what nissan recommend re engine oil but all diesels do like having the engine oil changed regularly and it works for me so i dont mind paying the extra few dollars to know my engine shuld last the distance
each to his own way i guess
see you greg

Why would you change 7 litres of oil and leave half a litre of old dirty oil in the filter. If you must change your oil every 5000km spend an extra $10 and change it all!!!!

I change my trans oil about every 30,000 in that time it has done about 20 to 25 thou towing caravan. Had pathfinder, jackaroo and now prado, To me oil is cheaper than tranmission. Also tow in overdrive
Cheers

Would never recommend towing in overdrive. The fluid presures holding the bands is not high enough to overcome slipping in a standard auto.
