Ok I'm in need of some help here.
Over
easter I discovered that our hotted up 12v stove re-heats
supermarket hot cross buns beatifully when camping.
Problem is
easter is over and I can't find any in
Melbourne.
Now I have done my research and phoned a couple of Baker's delights to no avail
and we hope to be bush again this weekend.
Consider simple
recipes even - remember I'm male

Used to work at Coles. After
Easter, the Hot Cross Buns were sold as spicy fruit buns !
Same bag of mix, different label on the bag (also no X on the fruit buns !).
May be easier to find Spicy Fruit Buns during the year?

Dropped by a different coles
supermarket to-night and they didn't have anything, neither did our safeway however they still had some actual hot cross buns on specials table baked only on 1/5 so I am saved at least for this weekend
Thanks folks

You might be lucky, have a look at your local supermarkets, you can often find them in the Reduced basket sometimes for less than $1 a packet (brand name too). They freeze very
well. Something to keep in mind next time around. We normally stock up on
Easter Buns, Crumpets etc when they're out cheap. Very edible for the budget consience.

Robin,
They are easy to make, follow any of the
recipes given.
A tip though, the recipe will say allow half an hour for dough to double in size, the key is doubling in size. This can take an hour or more if everything is cold - just don't panic. Also a "warm place" can be over a bath of hot water.
And "lukewarm" milk means just that - no more than 37 degrees or you will kill the yeast. I always allow about 3 hours from starting to having them on the table - plenty of time for a few beers !!

Sounds good Noel , but I'm generally out of my depth when doing much more than heating frozen ones in the Microwave - I mentioned
recipes to my wife , and she started talking about that new vegie patch I was going to do before the last trip !
