Is your 4wd your daily driver ?
Mine is.
There's nothing else I'd rather drive.
But around town it's noisy, slow, uncomfortable and a waste of fuel and parking space.
Let's face it, a pushie would be more suitable.

But get to the end of the tar and the 4wd comes into it's own.

Now there's nothing as nice as my wife's camry that will venture off the blacktop. Smoothe, silent and comfortable and drives like a dream. But it will loose traction on wet grass, and dies at the thought of rocks etc.

And if there were...and I could afford one...I would be frightened of scratching it, or it breaking down on me miles from nowhere.

I can't even find a vehicle to lust after in my dreams, they all seem to have drawbacks for me. Sometimes you can do too much research *sigh*

But I'm sure that by the time I win Lotto, they'll be something :)))))))

Yep, as a friend said "I don't like cars, my hemmeroids are too close to the ground".
As for cleavage, to pinch a concept from a well known holy man, it's like looking at meat in the butchers shop window. You can look, but can you really afford to mess with it ?

I have thought long and hard about this very question and come up with an answer.

If money was no object I think a Range Rover Sport would just about keep me happy.

That may be my British heritage showing through but if I won Lotto right now that is where I'd go.

Haven't driven one. Maybe if I had a shave and put on my white boating slippers , hung a jumper around my neck and bunged on my best accent, I just MIGHt fool the salesman into letting me sit inside one LOL

Had a 99 Rangie HSE for a few years.

In terms of "feel good factor" it ran rings around anything else I've ever had.
The missus is still crook I sold it, she felt likewise.

People love to knock them but there is nothing remotely like them.

Think I'll go buy that ticket. Prices are now stratospheric.

Actually there's a jet black with chrome wheels you can use as a mirror RR sports around this area. It has tinted windows, and is driven by a lady with blonde hair, black dress and high heels. Truly.
I have to admit that my base side started speculating about just where the money came from :)))

Footy,
My foubie is my daily driver too, I wouldn't have it any other way.

The HF is usually on scan as well, unless planning to go into underground carparks, when one reluctantly has to remove the top whip from the A/T.

Waste of fuel??? I don't think so. At least one can get a good view of the traffic situation up ahead.
My wife has a commodore. On the rare occasion I get into it, it feels as though my backside is dragging on the bitumen.

I can't find a vehicle to lust after either, so I feel that the best replacement for my 105, would be another 105.

Stu, I used to lust after the 100 seies V8 or T/D until I found out they create enough HF noise to cease listening very quickly.

Yep, they sure are slow, or should I say, lacking acceleration.

But what's the rush? Get out and enjoy the place. :)
The only HF noise I get is when somebody in a common- rail injected computerised space shuttle buzz box pulls up beside me at the lights.
BTW, the worst offenders are Hino trucks.

Prado is my Daily wheels. Half the reason I got a prado instead of a troopy was knowing that it would do many city km's.

Half reasonable as a 4by while still civil enough to be driven around town.

NOW we have the Corolla in the equation and that REALLY feels small after doing a few km in the Prado!

I love driving the Patrol and the wifes Astra and my daughters 93 Camry and all the trucks at work. Actually I just love driving.

Another thought on this topic.

Tonight I took the wifes Astra to get some fish and chips. I was sitting at the traffic lights when this guy in a BMW X5 thinks he can muscle in on me. He tried to get into the gap between me and the car in front. Ok I had left a larger than average gap but there was never room for him. Bet he wouldn't have even tried if I had been in the Patrol.

By the way, I didn't let him in. He yelled abuse at me but because he had his top quality BMW windows up I didn't here a word he said. But his wife was shocked.

Because I have grey hair, wear a baseball cap and drive at the speed limit, you can imagine the hassles I get from temporary Australians. One passed me today, blind corner and over the double lines. I know what the vehicle coming the other way thought, and it isn't polite :)))

I'd rather drive my vehicle in the bush. Neither it nor I were made for the "me first" generation :((

haha .. yes .. but I need 3-4 parking spaces for mine ...
so I do not go everywhere .. especially when parking is tight
and some moron slams a door into you and drives off .. as
it happend to me with every car so far ... aussies just don't stand
up to their mistakes .. well at least I have found most not to ..
so thats the only thing holding me back to take it to the city when
I have to park there ... fortunately I do not have to drive every day
for business .. just for fun ...
have fun

Yep totally agree with you there gmd. I use to park the hilux everywhere cause I know if they opened a door up on it it would hit the side steps and damage theres not mine plus steel bullbar up front and rear steel step bar up back. Now in the prado I park next to a pole if possible and park down the bottom of the car park and walk back to the shops not way out the way but far enough. I cant win over in my local shopping centre I park either the prado or the wifes new toyota at the bottom and park on the high side so if a runaway trolleys let go it will go the opposite direction to where Im parked and you can bet your life on it Ill come out the shops and there be no one else around at 11pm at night and some other clown will be parked on top of me and 200 other spots available cant win. When we were in the commodore one day wife ran in to shops while I waited in car knowing that other people dont give a fuc# and while I was sitting there 2 cars down heard a thump bird jumped in her car opened up door and slamed it into car next to her. She was in the new grande prado the other a brand new getz. I jumped out and asked her did she realize what she had done to this persons car and she said what do you expect in a carpark. Told her she was lucky it wasnt mine or she would have had a boot in the side of hers. She told me politely to fu## off so I waited till the owner come out and gave her the offending number plate and my phone no as a witness. Never did hear anything back. Regards Steve m

Steve,

I find that if you swing into the parks at the far end of the shopping centre carpark, most of the time you can walk to the door while the car that was in front of you entering the carpark is still looking for his (her?) park. Think I can convince my mrs of that? Ha, another story.

Wazza.

yup, my fourbys are my daily drivers, gu patrol, 60 series cruiser, holden rodeo and a suzuki stockman (+2 john deeres). the gu is nice and comfy, the 60 unstoppable in mud, the rodeo is a piece of carp and the suzi exudes character.......

Personally for road trips that don't leave the blacktop i'd prefer a car..... but then i prefer my road trips to leave the blacktop.

Quite happy with my 78 TD D,tronic cruiser. Slow, no not really. Won't blow a sports car away!.
Can't think of another vehicle that will tow 1.5 - 3k per week day for work then do extreme 4x4 on holidays.

Same. I - like the majority of us! - can only afford the one vehicle for transportation - which I also like to use for play, so... its the 4x4 for me. The GU - as has been pointed out above - can be a bit of a pain to park when space is at a premium (crowded front yards anyone?!?) and it pains me that diesel is STILL dearer than bloody unleaded, but I bought my first fourby 11 years ago and apart from the one before this (circumstances prevailed unfortunately and I had to make do with a 14yr old Magna for a couple years) I haven't looked back. I'm on my 3rd Patrol now (had the MQ, then the GQ, now the GU!) and the g/f has got the Astra - for when I'm "feelin' kinda sporty!"

Hmmmmm the Supa Trupa, the F350 4wd, the hilux or the Cruiser tray.... could be any one or more on a given day. Well..... on a really nice autumn day ... sometimes shoe horn into the little MG Midget!

Farming, towing, touring, and building..... I'd trash anything else...

Actually I tend to trash the forbies too!

Reminds me of me VS S worked commodore. (Such memories..!!!! :):):) )

Yep, mine is my daily driver and I love it.

If I won lotto and money was no option - I 'd keep the Cruiser, drop in a 6.5 V8 diesel, fix up the suspension add a few extras here and there, new coat of paint - but I wouldn't get rid of her.

I would however get rid of the wife's Pulsar in favour of an XR8 Falcon :-))))

My 4by is not a daily driver, spending 90% of it's time in the shed and is taken out only for trips. That causes it's own problems though as this year has been busy with work and the old girl has only done 800km, I try to old start it if I'm going to give it a good run - say an hour or so. At least it's not wearing out though, and we have a couple of decent trips planned in the next couple of years.

You need a 4WD and a BMW M3 - the new V8 . That should make you feel young again .

Maybe even get a good looking young kid like Charles Tombe did - then you'd be set .

That has almost made me turn to the dark side (Pommie) so many times. Man that is a nice 4x4 and a good daily driver too.

Until then I'll keep punting my 100 series around.

G'day Footy,

My Hilux is my daily driver and it is great. Since I retired from work it doesn't do as much running as it used to.

My wife has a new little VRX Lancer and it is a sporty little beast but I don't get a lot of opportunities to drive that. Can't understand why.

When I do get a run in it, it sits so low it is quite a weird feeling. It has all the body kit etc on it and if you hit a shopping centre speed bump at anything over about walking ppace it bottoms out. It is still a fun little sporty car though.

I am quite happy to stick to mine. Love driving my 4B

Last 2 work vehicles I've had are and were Mitsi Tritons, so yeah my 4by is most definitely my daily driver. Fuel is no object, gotta love the company Shell card!!! (It gets just under 10l/100km so not to bad)
Had to drive the missus little Lancer for a week recently while I was getting a Honda removed from under the tray and geez I forgot how much your butt scrapes the bitumen! That and how limited your view of the road is from so low down. Think I will stick to the 4by thanks.
