I am looking for power steering for my 1980 HJ47 Diesel troop carrier. Can anyone direct me to where to find one? Has anyone had problems fitting the power steering?

Are you looking at fitting a power steering unit to your vehicle that does not have power steering?
I don't think that a 1980 Troopie had power steering as standard.

If this is the case, the cost would be more than the vehicle is worth.

A motor from a 60 Series or later could replace the motor that you have now so that the power steering pump and belt drive is already fitted.
Then a steering box that was power assisted would have to be found and fitted with the steering linkages. Hoses would also have to be found.
Then a engineer report would also have to be gained.

It would be cheaper to buy a later model Troopie.

If you are looking at replacing the unit, a wrecker would be an option but we would have to know where you are in Australia to help any more.

It can be done but you want to go the genuine route you need to find a complete 40 series short wheelbase as the donor.
The diesel 6's never had power steer from the factory due to clearance problems with the power steering pump and the chassis rails/engine mounts in a 40 chassis.
You will have to relocate the power steering pump on your engine.
There have been conversions done using 60 series steering but it needs a bit of engineering to accomplish.

Pump off a 60 series, steering box off a 45 series, different engine mount that has the pump bracket, off a 2H motor, steering shaft from Toyota Spares parts, double crank pully, for the extra belt, hoses the same as a 60 series, bottom outlet on radiator needs to be angled to the right, that should get you started.

Oh the resivour from a 60 or 75 series.
