Hi, I can't find a diff lock or an LSD for the front of my new Patrol. It's a brand new 3,0TDDi with 158HP and it comes with the standard LSD in the back.
Suggestions where to get one are highly appreciated!
Cheers,
Jack

Well, I'm actually not living in Australia. We're a bit short in 4WD stores here.
I need to order my locker from the internet but, believe it or not, I just can't find those for my Patrol.
Sure, there is the ARB Air Locker, but it's really expensive and apparently not easy to install. So I definitely would favour a smoothly working auto locker.
I have the factory Toyota front diff lock in my HZJ105 and I actually only needed it once in three years - this is why I wont spend a fortune for it.
Any suggestions?

Get the "Lock Right" one, easy to install and no fuss.

Hope this helps.

Hey Granpa Joe, thanks for your excellent advise!
This is just what I was hoping for.
Do you know something about the charactieristics of the Lokka Diff Lock?
I heard that some Diff Locks are quite nasty in rainy weather and in curves and that some can be really loud - and that there are some that you only remark when you really need it...

Yeah Jack,
Putting one in the front only will not affect your cornering or the like when normal driving, put one in the back however ,.......... And the 4wd becomes a prick of a thing to steer

JackAttack,

Why do you want to put a locker in the front diff of your Patrol.
You have said that you only used the front locker of the Toyota a couple of times.

If a locker is needed put it in the back where it belongs.

Well, it was in this forum where I read "Better looking at it and not need it than looking for it when you need it - or something like that....
And I agree with that. I rather pay some $ for good equipment than paying with my life for a insufficiently equipped car.
We drive ours in the African outback and things can get pretty bad when you get stuck. It's always a question where you drive a car. Surely you won't miss recovery gear much - even when you actually need it - when your driving just 20km away from the next city. The same situation can get much more annoying, maybe even dangerous, in the bush.
This is why I want to be prepared. Of course we drive mainly on bitumen or gravel roads, but there are these days when we go off road and for those days and weekends, I want to feel perpared when driving in the bush.
It's the same with the tyres, the suspension, the snorkel or the rest of the car: most people actually drive 90% of their time ON road and would never miss those things ON road. But during the 10% off road, you want to know that you can get where you want. I want to have a 100% off road capable car, and not one which goes on strike in the middle of nowhere.
Besides, the Patrol has a good LSD in the back and this is why I was trying to get something like that for the fron.

But having all these open issues about problematic maneuverability and alike, I might opt for the Air locker. Despite the price...

Ah, perhaps one more question: most people seem to complain about the on-road driving of the Auto Diff Locks such as Lokka or lockright. But when you're onroad, you're certainly in 2WD (in the case of the Patrol) and thus it would actually act as an open diff - wouldn't it?

Obviously a toyota driver...Nissan LSD's are just about as good as locker and the BEST place for a diff lock is in the front. I have a Lokka in my GQ as does a friend and another in his GU....money very well spent. Smooth operation and you can steer with them operating. Turning circle is slightly bigger in 4WD
