Hi ,

I bought myself a small Fujitsu Lifebook which measures 17 x 23 cm . I am having trouble finding a place , or a means of mounting it , in my 100 Series TD .

I have just returned from GPS OZ where I looked at the RAM mounts . These did not fit , as my 'puter was too small to be clamped into their cradle and too large for their GPS and phone mounts .

The helpful gent there suggested , as it is so small , that I velcro it into position on the top my centre storage bin cover . I am not too fussed on this idea and would only do it as a last resort .

Does anybody have any ideas about this ? Are there other mounting brackets available in Australia ?

Thanks a lot ,

Willie .

Hiya Willie

Why not make a desk like I have. You've seen my set up. Works well for me.

Cheers

Willem ,

No mate , cannot picture yours at all . Can the driver work it , or is it set up for the navigator .

I am usually flying solo , so I need to see and do all from the pilots seat .

Thanks ,

Willie .

The desktop can be useful for the driver or navigator

What I have done is to make a desk type rest out from the centre section of the dashboard. I used MDF to make an upright which I attached to screws already part of the Centre Console. Then I fitted a MDF tabletop to the upright which I tek screwed to the top of the dash(you don't have to be so brutal tho...lol). My GPS and laptop rest on the desk and I have easy visual access to the screens. I made the upright in cut-away form so that gear changes would not interefe with it. The upright also holds the Mobile Phone and UHF Microphone. The desk is sturdy and has proved its worth on all my 2006 excursions. I colour coded the desk to blend in with the cabin colours

The Nissan cabin set-up is a lot different to the Toyota set-up. Dont know if the concept will work in 100 series. But it is worth thinking about.

Cheers

Be wary about sitting it on the console - I busted the screen on my tabletpc while using it on the console - my elbow broke it into 3 pieces :-((
Now, as a makeshift solution, I've got an old Tosh feeding the 2nd input on my reversing screen, and a small keyboard/mouse to work it.

Next tablet pc will be about the size of your lifebook, and I plan on having it mounted with velcro onto a carpeted platform in the middle of the dash.

Cheers

Willie,

Where would you like to mount it? I would like to understand what your views are on the best location before suggesting the best way to mount it.

You could also consider remote mounting and running a smaller touchscreen as an external monitor as another option.

Hi Stuart ,

Ideally I would like it sitting above the gear lever looking straight at me .

I don't want to remote mount it , as I bought this very small unit so I would not have to .

Thanks ,

Willie .

I saw the advert for Navnet on this site and it seems to do all the things I want EXCEPT .......wait for it .............the customer has to arrange the fitting and they can provide no cradle of any type for the screen .

It does everything I want , but there is no way to mount the screen . To me , that is not much of a package for $3500 , as I am left with the same dilemma as I have with my Fujitsu .

Willie,

I have built my own in car PC for under a nine hundred bucks so far including a 15.4" drop down screen for the kids in the back.

It is currently rigged up and running in the fourby and I am waiting for my 8" XGA touchscreen for the front. When it arrives I will be fabricating a custom fibreglass housing that resides ontop of the dash above the stereo. It will be able to swivel and tilt.

The system will do everything I can think of

GPS, DVD Playing, DVD Burning, Wireless Internet, Wireless LAN, TV, Camera Cards Slots, Phone Control, Music Storage and Library, Multiple Monitors etc, etc.

I can manufacture a bracket to suit your setup if you have in mind the location you would like to mount your laptop.

Regards

Stuart
