The Landy
I purchased one today, however when I turn it on it the screen comes up 'eXplorist XL' but it seems to be locked up and doesn't progress beyond that......
Any thoughts?
Thanks

Not familiar with it, but does it have a menu or setup key or function you can get to ? Most need to be set up before use.

Hi
Therein lies the problem as it appears to be 'locking'up before it goes any further than the first display page....
I've checked the website to see if there is a reset function, however unable to locate anything on it...
Thanks

Hey Landy,
I had a Magellan Meridian Gold GPS, when I pressed the PWR button & the intro screen started I had 10 seconds to press the "ENTER" button before it went off again, maybe the Explorist is similar???
Hope this helps.

Hi Landy, I tried to send you an email yesterday but when I looked before l came to work it had apparently been floating around in cyber space and boomeranged. With your current problem if you turn it on and take it outside so it can get a clear view of the sky as it is probably confused and does not know where it is, this could take a while, maybe Half an hour. If this doesn't work while still outside push the nav button, second from the top on left, and it should scroll through the nav screens and one will show you a satellite detection screen with the number of satellites it is tracking, 11 to 14 usually. However this should not be necessary just to get it to work. Have you pushed the menu button, second from the top right hand side? this should bring up the various menu lists, here you can do the man thing and just push buttons and see what happens (at this stage you will not hurt it or uninstall anything) or read the Handbook that is on the CD that came with it If you come across something you want to look at scroll down to it and push the toggle switch down, hey presto. One of the first things I done with
mine is went to personalise and filled that in, no address though. hope this helps.
Cheers
Rossco

the annoying feature of my magellan is turning it on then having to wait for the screen to light up and then having to press the toggle button to enter the software program. I you dont press the toggle it will shut down agan after a short wait.
Best you give Next Destination a call and explain to them in detail. They have the distribution licence in Aust and do the warranty work. I have always found them friendly and helpful and they even gave me a good deal on the old 315 when it died. They sold me a brand new one for $150 trade in the dead one. I couldnt resist that because the 315 gave good service except I need a computer connection now (or I only think I do). Then I gave the 315 to a mate anyway! oh
well.

Thanks to all for your replies.
As it turns out the unit is faulty. I spoke with the Magellan help desk and they could not trouble-shoot and suggested I aid in for repairs. I suggested that it would be going back to the place of purchase and either exchanged or refund. The had no spare units so I got a refund......I suspect the unit I bought had been used for demo purposes...
Purchased another today at a slightly better price and fired up straight away.
Cheers

Stick with the Explorist Landy.
I have had
mine since they first landed in Aussie.
I use it as a stand alone on the motorbike or walking and also for the laptop.
Top unit for me, be a LONG while before I change
