I have had petrol dual cab since new in 02 and have had no problems, (touch wood). I had heavier springs put on the back due to loads i carry but no other mods. Very capable off road, comfortable enough on long trips and very reliable. V6 Petrol likes a drink when pushed though, travels at speeds greater than 120kmh very nicely on the tarmac.
We choose the triton at the time because of the back
seat space, best in its class at the time but has slipped behind the nissan and rodeos for space now i believe.
The only thing I miss is cruise control in
mine. Haven't looked much at the newer navaras and rodeo diesels but have heard they are both very good.

Hiya Mike
I've had nothing to do with the tritons but what i have read lately is that everyone is happy with the way they handle on road, apparently they cruise along fantastic...
The only issue i recall was people complaining of the lack of third party accessories for them compared to hilux, navara etc etc...I'm sure i'll be corrected if this is wrong ! ~(*--)
cheers

Dont think aftermarket is a problem, or it wasn't in 02'. I fitted bullbar, steps, alloy tray with slide out draw, elec windows, central locking etc etc and no probs. Am about to put a dual battery system and
suspension upgrade and have plenty to choose from. Had 3 paj's before the triton and all went
well. Some Toyota drivers like to refer to them as toys but they go great and are comfortable enough, for their size.

Hi TMan
I have an 05 GLX-R Diesel. 45 000 KM . No Problems .
I had a cruise control fitted when new and she will sit on 110 Km/h all day.
I have done 2 trips to
Monkey Mia with the family and it never missed a beat . A little thirstier then the newer common rail machines but with less electronics comes more reliability.
The car works great in sand and even on the dunes . I do a bit of fishing up around
Wedge Island and feel confident of going anywhere with out the back up of a second vehicle.
I have never been able to find much about the Triton on the Web and have take this to be a good thing.
As they were not expensive new I recon they would be a real bargain secondhand.
Regards Gavan

04 , 05 has the 2.8l diesel?
Done 290,000k on
mine now in the pajero.
Good basic motor, was top engine in it's class when it came out about 94.
No problems except doing the fuel pump at 240,000k.
Easy to get another 10% to 20% power if you need it.
for more info try the Vic. Pajero 4wd club
forum.

Few tritons and other mitsubishi 4wds there too.

G'Day
My mate has one and thinks its a great machine. The only thing I found is I am about 190cm tall and when you are in 5th gear I find my knee and the gear stick want to be in the same place at the same time. Perhaps its just me!!

same here but I found that in my manual falcon and my old rocky and the landies in the army...
My '03 V6 looks like needing a syncro overhaul after 132,000km but it has been fairly flogged too...
Aside from this, no issues what so ever...

Got one new last year as run out stock coz the last one we had at work, a 99 or 02 model V6 petrol just wouldn't die... it's got in excess of 380,000 km on it now and apart from new clutch, valve stem seals and possibly needing new syncros in the box is still going strong. Apart from the clowns at work who keep driving into solid objects with it.....
That would be their only fault I can find, very light in the back end and the petrol ones are prone to having the back try to pass the front on slippery bitumen.
My new (?) 05 diesel goes like a charm, got 45000 km on it so far and its only when you turn on the A/C that you notice a slight lack of grunt, it is only a 2.8 litre.
As far as load carrying, the body kit on the GLX-R looks good but the rear "sports bar" gets in the way of large loads and as it doesn't sit higher than the cab it is next to useless for load carrying.
Apart from that there are plenty of accessories to fit them, and to the dick at Autobahn, yes, you can fit a vacuum controlled cruise control unit to them.....
