Hi I was wondering if any one can shead some light on a small issue I am having with the exploroz ce softeware on my PDA. For some reason - if i let the pda run flat or do not use it for a couple of days then for some reason the software needs to be reloaded - same applies to my street nav program.
I look for the software in the menue and file explorer but no luck - where does it go ??
All other software remains ie calendar etc
Strange - just a bit frustrating having to reload - not normal perhaps.
hope those in the know can help
Pj

If you let the pda run flat the flash memory gets erased.
Load the program onto the storage card if you have one rather than the flash memory.
You will still probably lose the link to it from program files but you should be able to browse to it with the file explorer and run it.

When I say flash memory I mean the internal memory, not SD of CF memory cards. These types of storage cards should never lose their memory unless you erase them or they are faulty.

Hi Mark. Have you stored the program on an SD / CF card or is it in the internal memory? I have had issues with loosing the contents of my SD card (maps) but no hassles with loosing the program which is in internal memory. I seem to remember when first getting my HP5550 to not leave the SD card in place when not in use. Thus, I try to remember to take it out once finished with it. So far, I have only had to reload the maps a couple of times. Very frustrating.
Cheers Tony

If you have the new HP iPAQ 6965 you'll need to disable WI-FI, Bluetooth and Tom Tom when not in use. From my experience, if you don't do this, the battery will flat within 24 hours.
I use an SD card for both Tom Tom and Exploroz. When not in use I take it out.

Ditto to what most have already said. If its stored on the units inbuilt memory it will be gone as soon as the batt runs flat or is removed for any reason

By the way ...the software in question is OziExplorer not ExplorOz. Good to promote the website in this fashion though:)

Guess we all speak what we are knowing about.. hehehe

Mark,
when you say the software needs reloading do you mean everything? like you have to go thru the screen alignment and cut/paste exercise? If so, you just need to keep it charged. or replace your battery.
otherwise, if you have a large sd card say over 2GB, I have heard (no proof) that there have been issues with formatting and lost data.

Its a case of a full reload?? - so I will work through the advice provided so far - its the software - which does not show up - Hmm!!
I am thinking if my pc goes flat - l charge it and the software is always there again - so why does exploroz go "walk about" on me - I will of course
check with the guys in WA .

You need to re charge the PDA a least once a week, if not try iPAQ Backup and back up all programs and data file to you cf or sd cards,
Also set ActiveSync to back up your files and the iPAQ Backup, backup,
This way if the main and backup battery goes flat and you can re-charge them and do a Restore using iPAQ Backup..
Regards
Richard
what model HP PDA do you have?

As said here if the PDA goes dead flat all programs are lost. Youe PDA should have an internal backup battery which should allow you to remove your main battery for a while at least. There is a software fix on the HP website. I think the problem is to do with Pocket PC 2003. The 05 version doesn't lose the programs when flat.
Cheers

My HP6828 has gone flat PLENTY of times (pretty crappy battery life) , and I have never had to reload programs (Running Ozi in memory).
Mine uses WM5, maybe thats part of the reason ?

It depends on the pda and on the type of the internal memory.
When you say gone flat do you mean really flat or just flat enough to just shut down?

When the battery goes dead flat, all installed programs and applications are lost, it pretty much goes back to factory settings.
Mine used to do this and after getting jack of rebooting everything back onto it I thought there must be an easier way.
I found that if you do a Backup (I think if you go to the "Start menu", then Programs or "Settings" you should find it, I put
mine in the start menu for easy access so can`t remember exactly where I found it) of the PDA the next time it goes flat, go to the "IPAQ Backup" application and do a "Restore". It will then restore the PDA back how it was before the battery went flat.

Bingo - thanks to all those with input along the way -
I will give this a go in the coming days and if it does not go my way then the Ipac "gets it" - and i will replace it with a more reliable one

i have an ipaq HX4700 & had the same problems .. battery life poor & wiped the applications everytime it went flat. Finally solved it by upgrading the OS from PocketPC 2003 to Windows Mobile 5 (which allows persistent memory). now even when i do a hard reset the applications are not lost (& my battery lasts enormously longer too!)
