Assuming you paid $14,990 drive away for your brand new 4x4.
See here for details.
www.jmclandwind.nl/en/
You then fit it out with the absolute cheapest, cheapest but NEW of everything, without regard for quality, safety, or longevity. (people do, I've seen them)
How liittle could you be on the "big trip" for, fully loaded and what would you buy?

Imagine a Chinese Rover 75.
Oops thats what they are building is Shanghai and plan to export to Australia.
The 4x4 looks like a copy Frontera , does it not?
I think you will be surprised at the good stuff that will come out of China in the next few years .
Look what they have done to the electric appliance industry, drills, TVs, now mobile phones.
Cars are actually pretty simple.

The website link above does reveal that the vehicles share both Mitsubishi and Isuzu diesels, both tough and reliable.
My son who is a mechanic and both 4wd and motorcycle buff was looking at a dealership near his work in
Melbourne, who sells new Chinese off road m/cycles.
He was very impressed with the build quality and said to me that if it had a Honda sticker on it, you wouldn't have questioned what you were looking at.
Whether it lasts as long as a Honda is an entirely different matter of course, but I also think that we can expect some pretty good stuff from this country.

TB there is no doubt you are correct, we can expect good stuff but "in a few years"
right now they seem to have a few issues to sort out yet, refer to this
test.

Looks great to me, can't see why you'd need to buy more than a tank of fuel, then up the CSR!
More seriously, I think you can get away with a basic set of spares and toolkit. Giving yourself a decent range between refuelings make life lots easier for me tho.

I've seen some of the JMC stuff when I was living in Vanuatu - in that case it was a Chinese copy of the previous model Holden (Isuzu) Rodeo. It didn't look too bad overall, but it was definitely lower quality than the original in terms of the sorts of plastics and materials used in the interior. Can't comment on drivetrain, but can't help wondering what corners they cut there also...

Looking at the technichal info the deisel is the Isuzu 2.8 in the Turbo diesel model. t\This is a good motor that the military used in the 110 Landrover (after they ripped the landy donk out) The only question would be if the Isuzu motor came complete from Isuzu and wether the driveline was crap...... The specs are a little vague in the attached info though.

Sorry, my mistake. The one the military use is a larger Isuzu Motor, Very similar to the Isuzu MU's 2.8 in design though.

For $14,990 drive away you could buy 4 of these or one new landcruiser and you would get aircon in every one. If it comes with a two year warranty you would probably be better off as long as it was only for two people.
On Chinas ability to produce the goods I import a product that 18 months ago I would not buy from them, one of the manufactures came out and asked us why. We spent some time explaining exactly what we wanted and 2 months later they came back with a product so good we had to buy it or our competition would have.
Have fun

Agree with you re china's manufacturing ability.
There is no doubt that at some time we will have chinese made cars here.
GM and VW are no 1 and 2 respectivly in chinese car manuafacturing.
GM certainly would source product for Australia if the price was right and the quality acceptable.
