Hello Patrol22.
We sold our GU 111 3.0L T/Diesel last October and bought a 2.5 TD D40. We chose the manual ST-X. I am short by the way but I reckon the pedals suit a taller driver.
We investigated about a 2nd battery and were blown away from Piranha's (we are in
Melbourne) price of around $1400. Apparently the had fashioned a cradle for the battery and it was to be fitted underneath the rear of the vehicle.
We spoke to our local auto elect., who was
well known to us, and he simply fitted a 2nd battery in a battery box in the rear cargo area. It takes up bugger all space really and we have found it suits our requirements. Cost $450. We needed to run our fridge and this sits on it's slide in front of the battery. Works great.
We chose to swap to the Navara because we were not satisfied that the vehicle was going to last as long as we wanted (3 litre diesel). Nissan were no help, they didn't want to know about the question I put to them.
Never mind, we got a good price for the Patrol (which by the way my wife hated because she could never nod of to sleep in it without feeling uncomfortable) and decided to switch to the Nav. complete with full bumper to bumper 6 year warranty.
And just as important, the wife loves it.
We tow a small pop top (1.2t) and with the manual get around 12.1L/100ks. Without the van, around high 8's to low 9's. Tows fantastic, always a gear for every occasion. A tank is usually good for around 700ks. The cruise control is also the best I have yet come across.
We also fitted over the past couple of months, a Smartire tyre pressure monitoring system and Firestone airbags. We fitted the airbags because the rear is soft and towing the van, as
well as camping, it needed some sort of assistance. With the airbags you simply add air to support the load and level out the vehicle.
We also sold the Continential rubber and have fitted muddies. Couldn't be happier.
True Blue.
