Hi Guy's,
> I have just bought a Asus A636 PDA and loaded OziexplorerCE and some
Raster maps on to the PDA. When I record a track while driving and save
this track to a file every thing seems to be alright. But when I go to
re-open the saved track it will not come back up on the screen again. I
have tried saving the track as plt file. When I have saved it
using "save to log track file" it does re-appear on the screen along
with two or three other tracks that I have tried saving previously. Because things were getting messy I decided to deleted everthing and started again.
Now every thing is loaded back on to the PDA.
So I started again. As a trial, I saved a track by going through: View,
Toolbars, Track Toolbar, Save the Active Track File, and saving
Track1 to a file I created on the SD card. When I go into the Track
Toolbar again to reload Track1 it does not come up onto the screen
(map). So I saved a track by going through: File, Track Log, Save
Track Log File, and saved Track2 to the SD card. When I go into the
Track Toolbar again to reload Track2 it comes up perfectly. Now the fun
starts. I then saved Track3 in the same manner as I did for Track2, but
when I go into the Track Toolbar again to reload Track2, both Track2
and Track3 come back onto the screen (map) at the same time. If I save
Track4, Track5, Track6, etc., and reload only one track all of them
come up at the same time. So now I am REALLY desperate for help.
I do appreciate anyone's advice.
> Thanks to any of you in advance for your help.
Geoff.

I have tried to load saved plots/tracks to OziCE without success as well. Ozi loads them fine so if anyone knows the answer lets see it.

Richard,

I'm still digesting Geoff's problem but are you referring to .plt files and problems loading them to OziCE?

Geoff,

In OziCE, using menus File then Track Log, do you Delete Track Log File and Clear Track Log (Mem) before starting to log a new track?

Al,
I do understand what you are saying and it does make sense. When I am out tomorrow I will try what you have just told me and I will let you know the outcome.
thanks Geoff.

Geoff,

That should ensure that you only get the one 'track' on the file (after you've saved it of course). Should give us a clean starting point and we can go from there.

Hi Al,
I went driving around the metropolitan area over the week end, and it appears that all my problems are over. Thank you for your help.

The tracks in OziCE work differently to the PC Ozi, if you use the file, track log, load track to file(mem) option it only loads a number of plot points, can't remember the number but it has a maximum and will not load the whole track, only the last bit, it describes this in the help file. You have to load from the track toolbar to get the full track. I don't think you should be saving from the toolbar as this will only save a track you have loaded into 1 of the 5 user tracks. You need to save the track log file, but remember the track log file is always getting appended to, if you want a fresh track you need to delete track log file before you start

Hello – waypoint and track save/load functions can be confusing in OziCE and it takes a while o get your head around them. Firstly you must be aware that there are two types of tracks that can be displayed in OziCE – these are referred to as the “Memory Log Track” and “User Tracks”

The Memory Log Track is the track currently being recorded and displayed on your screen. (there is a limit of 1000 points that can be displayed so not all may appear on the screen). By default the track is saved automatically to a file called cetrack.plt. This file gets added to every time you turn on the gps function…so it will get bigger and bigger and will have every track point recorded for every trip you make..unless you delete the file and start again. At any point in time you can save this log file using the FILE - TRACK LOG - SAVE TRACK LOG FILE – using this function will save the existing cetrack.plt file to a name of your choice. Keep in mind this will save all the tracks created since the cetrack.plt file was initially created so it could include many of your separate trips.

Every time you turn on your PDA and start recording a track file this current data is displayed (up to 1000point limit) and stored (all of it) in the units TEMPORARY memory (in addition to being added to the cetrack.plt file). To save this current track info as a separate file (eg the track you followed for a certain day) you must use the FILE - TRACK LOG - SAVE TRACK LOG (Mem) function. ONLY the data recorded since you turned on you PDA that day will be saved to this file. DON’T use the FILE - TRACK LOG - SAVE TRACK LOG FILE otherwise you will end up will all the other tracks recorded in the cetrack.plt file.

NOTE 1: it may be necessary to use the FILE - TRACK LOG - CLEAR TRACK (Mem) button when beginning a new track as unless OziCE is turned off properly a previously recorded track my stay in memory.

NOTE 2: Don’t use the track toolbar to try and save the track currently being recorded. The track toolbar only has access to existing saved tracks i.e. you must have already saved it using the abovementioned functions anyway. The term ACTIVE Track used in some of the track toolbar functions does not refer to the track being recorded in memory but to the active ‘user track’ ie 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5.

“User Tracks” can be loaded using the Track Toolbar and represent EXISTING track files that you PREVIOUSLY saved on you unit. You can load up to five tracks (total 20,000 points). With the various icons on the tool bar you can also edit (add points at end of track or between points in track) and save any one of these files as a new track file (though if you don’t edit it, it will just be the same anyway). You can also create manually a new track by selecting an empty “active Track” (ie 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5) and using one of the add track point buttons and touch the screen where you want a point. As mentioned you CAN NOT save/edit the track log that is currently being recorded by OZICE using the track toolbar.

Primary function of the user tracks is to load existing files in the background to enhance your map e.g. add non existing bush tracks or boundaries.

OK with all that in mind, some of your problems

1.“When I have saved it using "save to log track file" it does re-appear on the screen along with two or three other tracks”

You should use the FILE - TRACK LOG - SAVE TRACK LOG (Mem) function, NOT the FILE - TRACK LOG - SAVE TRACK LOG FILE one.

2.“As a trial, I saved a track by going through: View, Toolbars, Track Toolbar, Save the Active Track File, and saving Track1 to a file I created on the SD card. When I go into the Track Toolbar again to reload Track1 it does not come up onto the screen."

You can not save the current memory track log using the Track toolbars “save active Track file”. All you were doing was saving an empty file, hence nothing appearing on screen.

3.“So I saved a track by going through: File, Track Log, Save Track Log File, and…… reload only one track all of them come up at the same time.

As mentioned using FILE - TRACK LOG - SAVE TRACK LOG FILE saves the ceTrack.plt file which contains all track records since the file was last deleted (ozi creats new empty one automatically) – hence all you track files are appearing. You need to use the SAVE TRACK LOG (Mem) function (properly) to save individual tracks as they are created e.g. at end of each day.

Hope all this helps

Cheers
Greg

Hi Greg,
Thank you for your detailed information on OziCE, I am now recording individual tracks with out any problems. With your information as well as Al's and Brett's I was able to tidy up a couple of other small issues as well. I am now back on track.

Thanks Guys,

I was looking for something in File/Load from File like the PC version or in the main toolbar and didn't realize the track toolbar was there. I can now see my saved tracks on the PDA.
