It's been interesting reading some posts in this
Forum and reviews on other sites and in the press about the new 70 series Cruiser. A lot of comments saying the V8 is nice but the interior hasn't changed for 20 years with Toyota getting quite a bit of bagging. I've had an 80 series since 1994 and steadfastly avoided buying a 100 because they were so
sedan-like that fitting internal accessories was going to be a real issue. Now I've caved in to the lure of the V8 diesel and pick up a cab chassis next week. Before the 80 I had a Troopie and when I sat in the cab chassis at the dealer I immediately felt relaxed about where I could put things. I wouldn't even think twice about driving the odd tekscrew into a panel if it was the best way of fitting something. When the new 200 series comes out later this year I bet they will be terrific, but I wouldn't like to be trying to fit a CB anywhere.

Looks like we can agree on some things eh, I had a look at the new Workmate 4 door and noticed the dash is almost the same as my old 94 Troopy but then I thought just how functional and familiar it is , ideal for mounting things, why change it when it works and as I said to someone else , it's not the interior dash and seats that gets it over a Dune, it's that beautiful piece of machinery under the stylish bonnet, C'mon LOTTO.

I asked a geo at work if she had been in landies much and she cursed them badley,
nothing to do with oil leaks or reliability - she just needed that flat dash as a work surface for here mapping gear

I suppose an ugly old dash doesnt help it get up dunes any better than a nice modern dash for the same price either. A 6th gear would be good on that truck also.

We traded our 05 GUIV 3ltr Patrol in on one of the 76 series wagon with all the fruit. Will be using it for towing as the old saying goes there is nothing like cubic inches. Should be here in the next two weeks.

And so the new Cruiser should be up for a fair bagging particually when it comes to the internal fitout. When charging almost $60K for a tray one would think they could come up with a cabin with both features & function. It's as though the dash was an after thought with the diff locks & idle up switches tacked onto the original 1984 design. Centre console too is tacky & for many will have to be replaced to be usuable.
Over the past 23 years since this dash was designed a few modern inventions have taken place, Ipods, GPS, computer mapping, mobile phones, air bags to name a few. Even if they don't fit them it would be nice if they had some provision. Heck I'd even settle for a cup holder!
Seat quality is below par & a step back from the Base & RV 105 series that this new 76 wagon model replaces. For the wagon in particular to go backwards in space, comfort & features doesn't say much for the design.
A bit of a let down for me & no doubt part of the reason my local dealer has had a new wagon down there for 7 weeks that he can't sell.
Cheers Craig...........
