Laptop PC mounting in Navara

I have just got a laptop to mount in the Navara - about 2kg - and about 4 million corrugations to cope with!

If anyone has any ideas where and how to mount such a beast - please let me know.

(I remember a long time ago, someone fabricating a canvas bag on the passenger side - but often I don't have a navigator and need to see everything without either looking 90 degrees away from the terrain or the laptop taking up 90% of the view out the windscreen)!

Any suggestions are welcomed!

Doug

Well here I am on this post and seems we have a duelling banjo type of thing going on here.

This could be dangerous tho as I see your email tag with the name Tilly and as my current squeeze is a Tilly I wonder on the size of OZ

Andy,
Thanks for the email and pics and would obviously suit the lappy in the front, however i'm after a robust stand to take a dash top mount TFT lcd probably 8.4"

As Doug suggests, the best way for to go would probably be with the welder and make my own so that screen can be secured in a cradle which is firmly bolted to the dash board. Most screens I have seen stand off the mounting base plate and I see this as a real weakness.

John

I've been looking at some "in-car PCs".

The best I've seen to date is a unit that fits inside an existing "car stereo" slot - but very exe! And with a directionally able 7" - 8" LCD screen!

And I'd like to do the Paris to Dakar next year too!!!!!

Yep. Did see those and as you say, expensive.

Paris - Dakar??? too hard too dangerous too old.
I am currently being encouraged by the squeeze to do the around Targa Tassie race in our T5 Volvo which goes like the clappers i will admit.

Might have to put the bolwing hat off the back shelf and on to the floor tho...LOL

Have a good evening

Put it on the wifes lap (if you have one) and get her to do the navigation as I do. Can not drive and look at screen as well and my girl loves it.
Cheers Bruce.

I think my Ex's, after first deciding who was going to ride in the front with me, would probably wind the window down and ditch it...

Bruce - my question was asked as "often I have no navigator" (or wife on these adventures!)

No offence taken Bruce!!

If Karen has to "do it in a hole" for more than a couple of days - she's not on the trip!

I reckon if you mount it somewhere solid the hard drive will feel every bump. I am inclined to go for the front seat with a restraint to stop it taking off. Or like the man said, someone's lap.

Crikey Andy, you'd never see the road (or the laptop) if you had a Swiss backpacker to ogle!! LOL

That's my point exactly! She can ogle the PC while I'm concentrating on getting to the camp site to get the swags out!!! (read swags not snags)!

No , that was a screen i bought from overseas when i was first setting up the system . It was to hard to get the puter out from it's hide,de hole each time to set up or use . I have since sold it to another member. I just altered the top of the stand to take a puter . It can swivel on a ram mount to be used by either co-pilot or driver . Im not that far away from perth if you want to have a look or some advice . Cheers Errol
