Why do you want to extend them mate? I think you'll find the GU already has good, high breathers for front diff, gearbox and transfer case (all of which terminate inside the inner front guard, near the back passenger's side of the engine bay).
The one breather it would be worth changing, would be the rear diff. It just goes a short distance to the tubular cross member above/behind the the rear axle (ie: not very high). That tubular cross member is sort of protected by a rubber bung at each end.....but if you've done a few dusty/muddy trips, try pulling those bungs out and see how much sand and dried dirt is in there!!! All that krap can work it's way to the top of the breather hose and down into your diff.
As for the type of hose to use.....
well it'd need to be a type of rubber that isn't affected by oils (obviously).....maybe a length of fuel hose would suit if you can get it in the correct I.D.
I bought a kit with filters etc from Pirahna many years ago and when I recently sold my 4.2TD, I took the back one off and kept it. Still haven't got around to fitting it to the 6.5's rear diff yet.......just a matter of time though.hahahaha

thanks roachie,
Nissan think of everything.....
i will have a quick
check when i get
home about the rear diff breather.
i have seen a kit similar with filters for the breathers, which made me think about
mine.
cheers,

Even on my old U12 Pintara the diff/gearbox breather was high up in the engine bay.

Hey' Wayne-o
I noticed when fitting my Safari
Snorkel that there was a spot on the
snorkel that looked purposely moulded into the mould with brass threaded plug bolts so as to link the breather points on the patrol directly into the
snorkel. It was right next to the breathers.
The rear diff breather can be extended from the rear to this point as
well.
Just a sugestion as most people don't fit these themselves so they may not have seen it.

Whoops,
Just realised that you don't have one. (a
snorkel that is): )
Ps My Safari snork doesn't whistle or vibrate at highway speeds (or any speed) (I was worried that this might happen after it was on.)

Something I was taught, was bring your front and rear diff breather line to the engine bay, replace the breather valve to the hose , then put the 2 hoses into a power aid bottle,( or similar) turned upside down so as it acts like a bell, then cable tie this of to something high under the bonnet.
Trust me this works.
P.S. I drove my 100 series GXL through 1 mtr of water for 1.5 ks twice in march, when I dropped the oils no water in the front and rear diffs and the gearbox and transfer, NO the breathers were not extended they were standed.
Cheers Steve.
