Just drove into town and come across this peanut driveing up the wrong side of the road towing a caravan ( duel lane with a nature strip in the middle ).
Yes..anyone can make a mistake but not only did he keep driving instead of pulling up in the park lane till the road was clear or turning around in someones driveway, he was yelling abuse at everyone to get out of his way.
I couldnt resist pulling up and asking him how he felt and reminding him he was the one being a C#$k not the rest of the drivers.

I saw a taxi driver open his window and punch someones side mirror against their car, the driver was very intimidated, I felt like reporting the guy.

What town was this?. I have the privilege of having a stuffed neck and back from an Italian bloke who couldn't speak the language and was driving on the wrong side of the road!. Head on and i was just a passenger, hence the only person i will get in the car with(other than myself :), is my other half.
Cheers Lyndon

Nothing wrong with the Mayor packing up the caravan, and taking the most direct route out of town!

Seriously, what's happening with the recently announced Government initiatives on a local front?

Kim, no idea. Just thought I'd get your attention :)) In other words I was just being silly as I've no real knowledge of how things are working out with the new regulations. (But a report says its shifted a lot of stuff from the public domain back into the settlements).

Morning Kim, Footloose,
Nothing has really changed yet, no laws are realy going to make much difference except a grog licence and equality. Most of them don't want to go back to the communities, besides someone wrecked there houses and threw rubbish every where and its easier to ask for another one than clean up the mess.
If your asking about the 50 Million Kim, The local councils have agreed to accept the 50 million but will not lease them the land to spend it on, nor will they let the Government govern them. So Mr Brough said the money will go to WA, but..............Come up with another agreement and he will find another bucket of money!!!!!!
We've got a few more cops and are getting more which is a good thing but they are young blokes who are going to take a while to harden up (on the trouble makers instead of the pensioner going to the dump with a dim trailer light).
Called the cops last week to report a couple of drunks sneaking in the front gates of a senior policeman's house who's wife was home on there own, they toll me not to go over there which I took no notice of......Lucky....no one turned up....and when he checked there wasn't even a job logged!!
But thanks for asking, every thing is great. (seriously though, It has stopped getting worse, only just making the one murder a week quota)
Cheers

Hairy and Footloose

I heard the Tangentyere Council rejected Brough's offer of $60m to improve the camps. It was my understanding that no impost would be placed on traditional Land and the offer put to Council was a lease agreement on the camp sites only.

Good to hear things are improving. Alice is a great town.

Gday Kim,
Yep, thats about it. They basically said, we'll clean up your mess, build you new houses as long as you lease the land we build them on back to us.
Wreaks of greed to me.
Another issue is everyone is now arguing who are the traditional owners who's a visitor and who's entitled to what.
If I had my way, anyone who said they were entitled to something in town and was found to have a house and land out bush would be charged with fraud!

Cheers

Hairy, I'm sure its not supposed to smell of greed. AFAIK it's designed to give them the "opportunity" to own their own stuff, along with some rights they don't presently enjoy in law.
Now AFIk at least one community you know doesn't have a great record when it comes to paying the electric bill. How are they supposed to pay rent ?
Get a job. Oh oh...same old same old coming up.

So tell me, where has all the taxpayers money that has been gushing all over the problems for a long long time, been spent ?

Me thinks too many fingers in the pie, both black and white, to solve much of importance. Maybe the present minister has the same idea ?

The greed I was talking about is the land owners not the taxpayers.(Talk about want your cake and eat it)
As for where has the money gone, you answered that yourself but also the up keep and repairs on the communities that do actually get it is astronomical.
I think if everyone was treated as equal we would be a lot better off.
Cheers

Oh sorry. Thats what I thought but it didnt read that way to my glasses (which are foggy not empty).
For a minute there I tried to put myself in their place...and by golly I almost could.
I mean, what if someone wanted to extract me from my misery and poverty by giving me money for nothing (and my chicks for free :)) Coolies ! (said in the traditional language of course).
I see the PM has been accused of genocide, and yet they have a much faster growing population than we have. Somebody speaking with forked tongue, methinks .
I've said it before and will say it again, what we've bestowed on them is a hip pocket, cargo cult mentality.
The vast majority of Australians voted for them to become citizens a long time ago...me included. Now, what have they done ? It's got to be a 2 way street.

Yep, it's always been a nice town for me. Pity about the hassles.

Git outta here Footy and off yer bloody soapbox, I hear people saying...

Didn't Brough include a conditional offer of a further $20M for 'visitor' camps?

If this is true, all their getting from the Federal Government is more of the same. Visitor camps won't work. What a stupid idea.

There's a push from business to become involved and emulate some of the success Comalco and Argyle have achieved over recent years in the creation of employment. There are some real success stories out there.

I don't have any confidence in Government to address the issues anymore.

Regards

Kim

Yep,
The visitor camp known as the dongas is another bucket of money that any local will tell you is just another waste of money. There is already a few motels which have turned into "blackfella motels", its just you have to pay for them and a lot of people don't want to waist there grog money on accommodation.
Problem now is the local custodians have burred up and said the proposed site is now sacred! (good job it backed up to a nice residential area). Funny thing about all of this is the mob jumping up and down saying OUR people need more help wont let them stay on their 100s of acres surrounding the town were the infrastructure already exists and they all could act as mentors, they are now your problem!
Visitor accommodation already exists, its called motels, caravan parks and hostels, its just you have to pay for it and abide by a few simple rules (trashing the place is not accepted)
Cheers

Saw a bloke do that on the Hume Hwy. Must have been at least a dozen cop cars in front of (warning oncoming motorists) and beside him (in correct lane) but he did not stop for the 50 odd K's I saw it going on for. Was at, or a bit above speed limit when they all come past me (cops on my side....offender on wrong side).

Also had someone come head-on towards me up wrong side of road (I think he thought it was dual lane road as he was most apologetic) coming back from snowfields one day in Vic.

I am sure it happens more than is reported.
Cheers, Trevor.

You guys amaze me, you have obviously never driven in hong kong....Now another small confession, apart from the one concerning the accident with the fuel bowser that was on the wrong side.... No I have to declare a vested interest, driving on the wrong side of the road is inconsequential when you consider I have a relative that stops at green lights. Resides in the western subburbs of Sydney and thank god never ventures outside the liverpool - parramatta area apart from the occasional trip up the f3....
If you live in this part of Sydney you have probably met her....

Two peanuts in two days!!!!
Comming home from the speedway last night I was following a mate, as he drove out the gates I saw a group of young blokes at the gate who were running up behind his car and trying to grab the spare tyre and stand on his tow bar. ( I think they were trying to get a lift up to the highway).
As I drove through I saw a bloke hidding behind the gate getting ready so I drove through a bit faster. Watching him in the mirror I waited till he was full sprint and just about to grab hold.......SLAMMED on the anchors......BANG, straight into my spare wheel!!
Laugh...I nearly shat!

Hmm interesting. I remember back in about 1980 two families of kids and their mums packed into a car were driving along what was then the first section of dual lane road in Alice on their way out to the drive-in. They were travelling on the wrong side of the road and were literally driven over by a Road Train (Tanami Transport I think).

From memory I believe all died except for one boy who had some big injuries. He was in my class at school.
