Hello all,
I am trying to find out if there are any portable 12 volt fridges that can operate as dedicated freezers. By dedicated freezer I mean one that has the "cooling coils?" all the way around the cabinet, not just at one end allowing simultaneous fridge/freezer mode.
I know there is a new 110 litre Waeco that can operate as a dedicated freezer - but are there any others? I am looking for something in the 60-110 litre capacity.
Thanks in advance.
Cheers,
Jezza

The Engels have the coils the whole way around the cabinet.
Check out ABR's website as Derek has just released his 12v fridges.

Thanks Kev,
I have never had a good look inside an Engel, and I'll
check-out Dereks' site.

My 40l waeco also has the cooling element all the way around the main portion as does my fathers 50l waeco. I think most of thier models are the same. Can freeze to -20 or so. Just depends how much
battery power you have!

Hi Muddy,
Thanks for that, my 110l Waeco only has the coils at one end of the cabinet - I actually rang Waeco and they advised that only the new 110l "FF" model can operate as a dedicated freezer with the coils all the way around - I might call them back tomorrow to double
check.
BTW - it's for my father-in-law, power not a problem - mains connected in a caravan park in NT for storing Barra'
Thanks again,
Jezza

If it is only for mains power it would be a lot cheaper to pick up a second hand small chest freezer.

Hi Jezza,
Check out Explorer fridge freezers, they have a dedicated freezer section. I'm not sure about the coil set up. I have had
mine for almost 10 years and its as good today as the day i got it.
Cheers Scott

Hi Jezza,
Have you looked into a TRAILBLAZA with a thermastat overide switch fitted. It allows you to have either all freezer or use it in normal fridge use. I have one and swear by it. If you are interested ph Margaret @ TRAILBLAZA up in Caloundra (qld) they have a whole swag of sizes shapes, models you name it they will make it.

Hi Jazza
I have an Engel 60 llitre fridge freezer, which gives you a 33 litre fridge and about a 25 litre freezer. Used it on a trip up the centre last year and will again this year, held sufficient food for 3 weeks frozen then vacum packed in the freezer, and plenty of space for the refrigerator items.
Cost about $1600 with travel cover which is a must have.
Cheers
