Hi There,
Just wondered if anyone on here has experienced Range Rover Sport diesel for outback/off road touring. I've
test driven the new TDV8 and it's an absolute joy to drive. I'm crazy enough to be seriously considering it as a replacement for my TD5 Discovery. If anyone has had one for a while and has actually 'used' it I would lover to hear from you...

Hi Patrick,
I suspect that if you are doing outback touring and offroad touring, the Disco 3 may serve your needs better, since it's got physically more interior space which can be used to store away stuff.
If you go to
Melbourne City Land Rover, there is a D3 there fitted out with factory winch cradle, roof rack, has the glass roof with triple sunroofs, and navigation system. It needs a
snorkel but already has Goodyear MTRs on its 19" alloys.
And since it's an ex demonstrator model, it's a stack cheaper to buy than new.
Cheers!
Lawrance

Yes that's true!
I guess if you are going touring, you really don't need all that grunt of the TDV8.
Having said that, the ultimate Land Rover for me would be a fully optioned Disco 3 with a TDV8. Sadly, Land Rover doesn't have any plans to do this.

I'll bet you could do it yourself.
All you need is a good mechanic, a shoe horn and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots of money.
I would love a RR Sport. I figure by the time I save up for it they will have sorted all the little bugs you find in an initial model.

Thanks everyone who's responded. Lots of good points here. Certainly agree that the ultumate Land Rover would be the Discovery 3 (AKA 'Bread Van') with the TDV8 but as others have said the Sport looks (and now goes) so much better. We'll use ours when it finally gets delivered to tow a heavy off-road camper.
And day to day in the city it's so much better in terms of size. Once ARB come out with a Sahara Bar for it - which I'm sure they will given how many Sports are being sold in the US; and once some decent tyres become more readily available, I reckon you'd be hard pushed to find a better 4wd. I, for one, can't wait!
