We are off to
Ceduna on saturday for a week to do some work and have a sorta break, ( yes I am game to stay there LOL ) and just to add to the fun we will have 3 of our grandkids on board 5,2, and 0.5 haha, as there parents are on a houseboat for the week and reckon they dont need the kids with them!
Well Mrs. Pesty has had a brain wave tonight! and wants to grab a portable dvd player in our local country town tomorrow, so selection will be limited.
What I am after is any pitfalls or recomendations we can get to help in our selection as this is a fairly foreign field to us?
Thanking you Pesty

Hi Pesty,
A laptop with a DVD drive is a bit more versatile but probably only economic if you already have one. (can also use for mapping if you link to a GPS, downloading photos etc)
The Strathfield catalogue have DVD players this week for $89.95 (5 inch). If you already have a screen they are advertising DVD players for $29.95.(no affiliation and no idea on quality but hey....how wrong can you go??? At the prices being offered nowdays if you get through the warranty period you have done ok and if you don't, claim a replacement)
I note your comments re being country based so probably no store nearby (the catalogue only lists metro stores). Gives you an idea of the going prices though.
Good Luck
Trev

Hi Pesty
I have a dual screen type and the best way to pick one is to see it working and look at it from different angles, some unless you are directly in front of the screen you can not see the picture, the kids will not be happy if the only way they can watch it is with their heads together. The other thing is to
check the volume, some are that soft you have to have headphones, you might have to get some cheap little speakers. Hope this helps.
Have fun
Craig

Thanks to all the replies, as stated we had limited choice at our local rural town at short notice, with about 6 to choose from.
Came down to LG with swivel screen or Panasonic.
The advice we used to make our final decision was the, viewing from the sides and the volume.
The Panasonic won hands down in both cases for only $100 extra.
So we ended up with a Panasonic DVD-LS80 with 8.5 widescreen LCD, with 6 hr playback for a little under $400.
You can stand and watch the screen from 90 degrees very clear, and as I write this, one grandson is watching "thomas" in the next room at about 2/3 volume and I can hear it easily. We also bought a couple of head phone sets for some peace.
NAN is already packing some of her dvd's " just in case !!!!!!!!!" the weather is too cold to go out much hahahahaha.
I let her think she was buying it for the grandkids !
Thanks everyone
Cheers Pesty

There parents remember us doing that with them, but heh, times change , but we will certainly make them enjoy the great outdoors as we have always done.

G7135 from Dick Smith/Tandy
Site Link
2 individual units so you can run them independently or in sync (we run one on the centre console , the other from the middle row headrest for kids in third row to watch)
7" screens that swivel 270 degrees so you can view from any
seat
Could be roof mounted too as picture can be flipped 180 deg within screen
about $450 - not bad value
Cheers
Rich
