I am trying to find out if anyone has had any good experiences or bad with the tropical and/or icey-tek eskies. I am looking to purchase a 100litre and trying to determine between the two brands. I already have a fridge but plan to do a big trip (2 months) and need something extra. I have found little info on the tropical esky apart from the comments from mates, anyone have a web address or know where they can be purchased.

Cheers

Haven't heard of those brands, so I can't comment on them. But have you looked at the "eva cool" range, come in lots of sizes.

Crowe.. I have a 52l Tropical and it is great at keeping ice for about a week. The small rubber stoppers on the bottom will snap off though, although this has nothing to do with the efficiency of the esky. I use mine as a "traveller" for when I go fishing and leave the Evakool f/f back at camp.Make sure that the seal at the top is ok( by putting a sheet of paper inside and trying to pull it out. If it tears in half, you have got a good seal.) Final comment: Bloody good esky, nearly as good as an evakool.

I have one of those 100lt plastic jobs, but not the brands you mentioned. Apart from going down to the shed to check out the name, I think its called "COMOS". Anyway they are all the same construction, just different brand names. I find our esky is excellent, I make my own ice in a tray about 600x300x150 and that will last us a week, even with two kids into it every hour of the day to get drinks. Best advise I can give you is to shop around for the cheapest price and go for that. I know people who own the brands you mentioned and they all swear by them.

Crowe you dont say where you are but in W.A. they sell all those brand eskeys at differnt places and are very good against fibre glass doesnt crack if you knock it. But I buy them second hand from the fish Markets for around half price (apparently they can only use the once)
the have 45l ,70l ,100l ,200l ,and a big one 400l i think some have hinges some have catches some have seals but you can fitall that stuff cheap prices are around $180.00 for the 100l i think.

The evakool will keep ice for 13 days or more. Also a great esky is made by "Mickey" somewhere on Sunshine Coast QLD. My mate has one and it also holds ice for 2 weeks.

I know that Evakool now make an Icebox made from the same style of plastic as the Tropical, they are called Icekool (can't find their website), try ringing Evakool at Caloundra QLD
