Longevity of V6 engine in Prado

Here is one for the techncally minded members. What life expectancy would you expect to get from a V6 petrol engine that has been serviced to the manufacturers reccomendations before a major over haul ie rings bearings etc not withstanding the usual water pumps wearing out or power steering gear. There is quite a few 2nd hand 4wd on the market with 250,000 klms upward and the cars are less than 10 years old. Following on one step what about suspensions wearing out . Any comments would be appreciated.

Hi Greenant, I would expect to get
well in the 400k mark upwards without any major engine failure major oil usage etc. As you have said waterpump, aircon pump etc is to be expected. I have 160 on
mine and I know of a mechanic that
services a couple which now have jumped to the 300k mark and still going strong. I reckon the main thing is oil changes and filter changes. Regards Steve M

have had
mine since new for 7 years now -only used for legitimate 4wding - have a camry for the family car. Destroyed the standard
suspension very early in the piece and had an OME
suspension with Polyairs fitted. Its been a great unit and I've got no complaints.
Suspension problem was my own fault - too big a load. But I knew that and was too stingy to replace it until it was gone. Done 140k so far and still going strong. Great 4wd.

Would depend on weather it has been given hell it’s entire life.
300-400,000km would be my bet could be more could be less, but like anything mechanical things can fail that even good servicing can’t prevent.
If it's got 250,000 on original
suspension, it would be in need of some freshening up

We've had ours (Prado RV6) since new in 2001 and it's done a bit over 140k. Logbook service history. It does (did) a mix of city and weekend 4wd.
The OEM tyres were stuffed within 30k km. The BFGs lasted 80k km. The current Coopers are going fine too.
The battery died after about 5 years. Apart from that I can't recall any problems.
Suspension is ok.
She's been
well looked after, and I'm hoping that she'll be good for 300 - 400,000kms.

I have a few as customers pushing 300k with no probs.
The only parts I have replaced are clutches, and front strut upper support rubbers at high 200 k marks.
Great cars in my opinion.

Modern engines should go forever.
I had an old 1990 falcon 3.9, sold it going
well at 330000, Sons got a 1993 EB falcon done 350000 still going
well, Boss manager at works got 93 Commodore V6 still going
well at 450000. So even 17 year old engines will last long time with todays modern oils cleaner fuel etc. and treated reasonably
well. Of course if you are rough and careless with them they may let you down earlier.

I have a 97 V6 Prado with 240,000 on the clock no problems yet apart from the air con compressor. I was looking a Prado in a car yard last week with 460,000 on the clock .
