Good afternoon all
I put this request in on the weekend with no response, so ill try for the 5 day office bound readers.
I have purchased a Toyota GXL 70 series cab chassis though it wont be delivered for a couple of weeks yet. I have also purchased a ARB winch bar with the intentions of mounting a hinged aerial bracket so the Barrett aerial can be folded down parallel and just behind the bull bar during the day when not in use.
What i require is the distance between the back of the bull bar { between the 2 aerial mounting points } and the front of the bonnet. If any readers could help me with this information I would be most grateful. ARB have not been of any assistance as yet.
Regards Allan & Maryanne.

Allan, we've had our for a month now and would like to help you but it's away fishing. Suggest you do as we did and just ring the dealer and ask them to measure for you. I think we are the only ones on this Forum who physically have their vehicles yet. Good luck - hope you enjoy the power when it arrives.

I answered your first post with the detail below and received no follow up??

Which 70 series?
The 76 series 4 door TD V8, the 78 series Troopy or the 79 series Tray all obviously TD V8?

Not that it should matter you should be able to measure the detail you need on any of the 6 Cyl TD 78's and 79's as they are the same, all bar the bonnet width now extending to the outer guards.

The distance between the front of the bonnet and the rear of the bull bar will be the same as the current models about 100 to 120 mm give or take a little bit also not allowing for any aerial or light brackets welded on by ARB in that area.

Should have added that you would still be better to wait till you have the thing in your hands so you can measure yourself and ensure it does fit as you would want.

Good morning John Sorry that I did not get back to you earlier
The Toyota 70 series TD was the first V8 TD released in Aust. by Toyota.
The manufacturers of bull bars put a request to the Government in regards to the rake back of bars towards the vehicle so as pedestrians were not shunted under the vehicles when hit by vehicles with bull bars. The distance between the back of the bar and the front of the bonnet has been reduced quite considerably over the last couple of years due to this rake back.
I received my new vehicle at the begging of may but it was delivered straight to the engineers to have some major body work done to the vehicle which won't be ready for delivery for another 3 to 4 weeks, in the mean time i needed to have the aerial bracket completed so the lot could be put in to have a hammertone finish applied
Thanks for your reply Allan

Is it the 4 door, the Troopy or the Tray you are getting?

Don't know who told you the bit about the "Request to the Government" business, but its a crook of $hit.

The bar must comply with the relevant Australian Design Rules which state things like.

The bull-bar shall follow the profile of the vehicle to which it is fitted.
Fitting the bull-bar must not increase the width of the vehicle (excluding the mirrors).
Any sharp edges on the bull-bar shall be chamfered or radiused.
No open-ended frame members are allowed.
No small components (such as brackets) shall be attached to the front of the bull-bar.

Sharp edges and protrusions. VicRoads (in Victoria) specifies what types of edges on bull-bars are allowed, and how to fit items such as lights and fishing rod holders to the bull-bar. While these are similar to what appears in the Australian Standard, individual state roadworthy regulations must be adhered to.

Have a look here Site Link

The bar is NOT submitted for approval as you state, but must be built to comply with the published ADR.

The distance you require between the bonnet and the bar will be about 100 mm to 110 mm as previously stated

Sorry Allan no it didn't.
Take a look at the Toyota web site here Site Link note the model designation TOYOTA LANDCRUISER 79 - Now have a look at the Troopy link Site Link damn well look at that it says TOYOTA LANDCRUISER 78 - and bugger me look at the 4 door GXL Site Link it says TOYOTA LANDCRUISER 76 -
As I have said they are generically referred to and marketed as the "70 Series" to cover the whole type range the individual model numbers remain the same as previous years.

I would suggest that if you examine your purchase contract it will show the model designation on it also.
