I have been trying to find info on what the road is like.
Has anyone been through the gorge recently and can you tow a standard caravan into the gorge.

Regards Brooksy.

2 Years ago you could as long as you are using a 4WD to pull it and take it easy..

stop before you hit the beach (stones) because thats the last place you will get to turn around (as long as the van is 10 - 15ft only)

Hey Richard, is there enough space to move with vans before the pebble stone area.
Is it far to walk to the water?
The van is 14ft.

Yes
do it (not like us) in the day time and you should be fine there is a small rise and the road widens there just before the stones,

there are some small gullies (creeks) to travel through they will be dry (as if they are wet you wont be travelling anywhere)

I was there last year and towed my trailer in to the waters edge over the pebbles. From memory the last 14km into the gorge from the bitumen turnoff is good gravel road, with some corrugations.

I would advise against towing a caravan over the pebbles.

There is an alternative route a few hundred metres back from where you get to the pebbles. Turn right and follow the hard sand track along to the waters edge. There may be a tricky drop down the embankment to get to the waters edge as I recall, but nothing too serious. There are some shady trees to camp under.

Cheers

Hope to go back there in August.
There appears to be some camping on the other side of the river from the main camping area (just to the north of the main gorge), with plenty of shade (no good for me, tho, with my solar panels), and it looks like you get across at the northern end of the gorge, where the pool ends to just a trickle. Worth checking it out by walking the area first, as there were people camped there on my last visit. Either way, the gorge is a magic spot. I took an inflatable, and paddled about 2km up the river.

Check the road conditions locally. We were out that way 2 weeks ago and Skull Springs Road was closed at Eastern Creek. You may be able to get round the other way, from Marble Bar, but I think that was closed as well. Check with Pilbara Shire or local Police Station.

Avoid Marble Bar caravan park if you've got a dog. They can't make their minds up if they take dogs or not!! I got in a bit of a tangle with 'em and drove out of there after paying for a week and staying for only 3 days. They seem to have an attitude problem! They let you in with the dog, you pay your money and 3 days later they tell you that "they don't take dogs" ??!!**. More about that when I get back.

The Pilbara is the cruellest joke ever played on passing tourists,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,the stories of take it or leave it, who cares, whatever, no diesel, no cash out, no EFTPOS, no ATM, no pubs, no food, no beer, no dogs are legion and funny but sad,,,,,,,,,,,,more soon when I get back.
