Hey guys,

I am wondering how many ways there might be (routes to take ) to travel from Yulara ( ayers rock) to Broome??

from - Shortest to longest, easiest to hardest??

I have a well equiped land cruiser ( No long range tanks though) HF, GPS water tanks, lockers/ winch.. etc..

I currently work in Yulara, and may be moving to broome. As a solo trip, which way should I go?????

Thanks in advance,

Jarrod..

Go to Kings Canyon, Mereenie Loop Road, Gosse Bluff, Tylers Pass, Gary Junction Road and turn left. Then Papuya, Kintore, Kiwikurra, Kunawarritji, Marble Bar, GNHwy. Then turn right and head to Broome.

Thanks Willem..
Well, I got the Job in Broome, and will be leaving here (Yulara) in a week. The route you have suggested certainly looks the shortest on Ozi, Im wondering, about the quality of the roads ( General condition) and fuel along the roads you have suggested??

Also, Duncans reply below, what is the tanami like these days? I remeber doing it about 20 years ago ( I was 13) and remeber it being pretty rough??

Thanks,

Jarrod.

Jarrod

Fuel at Kings Canyon, Papunya, Kintore, Kiwikurra, Kunawarritji, Punmu, Marble Bar etc

Roads are generally in reasonable condition with some bits corrugated and some sandy with the occasional bulldust patches. Just drive to conditions.

You will need permits for Gary Junction Road from CLC and Ngaanyatjarra Council.

If going up the Tanami(longer I think) n permits are required. Fuel at Tilmouth Roadhouse, Yuendumu, Rabbit Flat (check for times open), Billiluna and Halls Creek etc. Road is reasonable outback road. Same again, drive to conditions.

Enjoy Broome. We spent some time there(about 6 months) in the 1980's

Cheers

How's it goin' Jarrod?
We will be heading off from Yulara on the 19/7/07 and going initially via the Great Central Desert Road on our way to Broome.
Our itinerary will take us through Warburton, Laverton, Agnew, Sandstone, Meekathara, Kumarina, Royhill, Nullagine, Marble Bar, Goldsworthy, Eighty Mile Beach and arrive in Broome on the 1/08/07.
This is the 1st time I will have done this trip so not sure how easy/hard it will be, but it is definitely not the shortest route.

Regards,
John

Quickest most probably and maybe shortest would be north via Alice left at the Tanami and left again at the Gt Northern Hwy until you hit Broome. If fuel's a problem go up to Katherine then do the LH turn and go via Kununurra. Enjoy your trip
