This is a bit of the usual topics and I have tried all my usual contacts and am hoping someone on here can assist me.

I am after an old copy of Autocad 12.
I have Autocad 14, 2005 and 2006 versions but non of these work with an old Dos plotter I am trying to setup. I contacted the plotter manufacturer and they inform me I need version 12. I had this years ago but threw it when I updated copies.

Blaze,

I may have a copy somewhere at my parents place in storage. It may take about a week or so before I know for sure. Otherwise have you tried the autocad forums?

Will have a look. I think mine might be Unix though.
Ver 12 , the last DOS version from memory.
You will need the dongle too to run it, unless it is a cracked pirate version.

Which plotter is it?
Is it serial or parallel?

I used to sell CAD systems, and install them, ever since 1983.
Maybe there is a work around if you can not get Ver 12.
Have various printer software that might solve the problem.

I will keep an eye on this thread to see how you go.

2004 I think was the last version that would save back to 14, and you could use 14 to save back to 12? Just checked and 2006 does save back to 12 DXF, but you most probably will loose some information if it is not simple 2D.

Hi Plodder,

The plotter is a serail Mutoh.... Part of the problem is the customer uses a Dos based cad program and usually imports it into Autocad 13, (I said in the post it was 12 but it was 13), he says my staff lost his disk. I can't say they did or didn't, but am a little more inclined to believe my staff. I have put Autocad14 on his system and says it doesn't import or print, not to sure thats true either but without looking, I can't comment.

Most of his stuff is normal 2d floor plans. I will have a look next week at his setup and go from there. As I said I have 2005 and 2006 that we can try if I can't get a cracked 13. He still has Autocad 13 on his laptop so if this is DOS we may be able to suck it off that HDD.

Cheers mate I may have some questions for you later LOL

Is it a Mutoh IP530 pen/pencil plotter?

Gee, now you are testing the memory. :o0

Had one until a few months ago. Couldn't sell it so threw it out.

If it is, it is HPGL compatible. (Not HPGL2).

Try a setting for the HP plotter of the era.

Draftmaster - HP7595, or Draftpro 7570.

Used to sell a few of them because they were almost half the price of the HP.

In regard to the software, we used to run 3 or 4 CAD programmes then, to suit various clients. We do drafting and CAD support. Now gone back to mostly drafting.
Most software used to put out Ver 10 or 12 DXF. Acad 13 was still using Ver 12 DXF I tihnk. Ver 14 DXF was a big change. Autodesk didn't release the dwg format until later.

Just went through my scrap room.

Ver 13 is Unix version.

But have Ver 14 with dongle for Windows 95.

Autodesk wouldn't port to Unix after 13, so had to resort to Windows.

When I upgraded from DOS to windows, I used a program called Print-it to print the HPGL plots as the HPGL printer in R13 for windows wasn't handling it the way it should have.
There were other versions around as well named similarly "print-a-plot" etc.
I still have my original programs disks from V10 onwards. I am not sure if I still have the dongles though as the V10 one was replaced by the R14 one and I think I had to hand it back. Lately they have been using software locks.

Coreldraw can also print HPGL plots to HGPL printers directly, but that may not help you there either.

Cheers Cam.

Hope it is helpful, it will probably never get any use again but I will chuck it back in the safe again anyway.

Hi Blaze, as an interim fix, setup the printer driver (in Autocad) as an HPGL plotter, send the plot to a 'file' on C:Drive and then open a DOS window and 'copy' the file to the printer port (lpt1 or com1) you can setup Autocad to do this automatically with a printer batch file if needed. Just a thought. Andrew.
