Yes I tried the suggestion in previous posts - take out the rubber plug to the left of the odometer reset knob and press the T-Belt reset button with a long spike.

Only problem is that it didn't stay reset. About 30 minutes after resetting, the T-belt light came back on, an no amount of button pressing will make it go off.

Before I place a piece of duct tape over the annoying light, does anyone know how to make it reset? And don't bother suggesting a dealer - they don't know which end of the vehicle is the front, let alone anything complicated.

Cheers
John

Hi, has your Odometer gone past the the required mileage that the belt was set to be changed? If not then I think then you will have to wait until that number has passed then reset again otherwise it will keep tripping the warning light when you reset it.

G'day Topcat

Well I think it must have because the light came on. Hope I don't have to wait another 100,000km before I can try resetting it again!! Now where's that duct tape ......?

Hi John,

Try this I'm guessing it the 1HZ engine. Mine is a 100 series but same enigne and it works.

Regards Todd

T-BELT MODE DISPLAY

a) With ignition turned ON, using the trip switch (select/reset button) change the display to ODO, and turn the ignition OFF

b) While pressing the trip switch, turn the ignition switch ON and hold it for 5 seconds.

c) Release the trip switch, then press the switch again within 5 seconds.

d) The digital display should change to T-belt mode. The initial display "15" (0,000km) is displayed (ie. 150,000km).

2. REWRITING REPLACEMENT VALUES

While in the T-Belt mode, each press of the trip switch will change the displayed value by 10,000km increments. Once " 20 " (200,000km) is reached the display reverts back to " 1 " (10,000km) again. Remember, this setting is the number of kilometres to be travelled before the light comes on next, and once reset this counter will start from zero.

I believe the timing belt interval for all the 100 series engine variants is 150,000km, but this should be checked against each different markets servicing recommendation. This being the case, you shouldn't need to change from the default setting of "15".

Obviously for the US, the ODO is in miles, and I guess the T-Belt warning would be set in 10,000 mile intervals.

3. T-BELT WARNING RESET COMPLETION

a) After setting the replacement setting value, hold the trip switch ON for more than 5 seconds then release the switch.

b) Check that the display has now changed back to ODO and that the warning light has gone off when the engine is started.

NOTE: If the T-Belt mode is completed, even though the belt replacement has not been performed, the T-Belt warning IS reset.

80 series is what they are asking about , is a mechanical reset ,not electronic as in the 100series.

Thanks Bellie, I had the same problem with my 100 series and after using your instructions I now have no annoying lights.
Cheers to all on ExplorOz.

John

I have a 1HZ of about the same age as yours. As i understand it, resetting when you do the belt change does not help - it pops up at the even 100 thou regardless. At least it has done that twice for me, and just pushing the little thingo with a spike (a Biro refill from memory) turned off the light till the next 100.

I wonder if you need to wait till it shows well past the 100 (a few kms) then reset it?

I certainly have not resorted to duct tape but am getting annoyed by mysterious vibrations around the dash / gear change area. They sound better if i leave my hearing aids home, but that does not seem to help my wife!

Cheers
Max
