Price was quoted for coming out to van location and fitting camera to car and to van , wiring it all up and fitting a screen in the Cruiser .
Is that quote over the top , or around the mark ?
Thanks ,
Willie .

Is that u Wiilie Mail me, will give u full instructions Would only take a Saturday to do it yourself Is that for the gear as
well, as the dearest Polaris unit is under $1000 and they would fit it pretty quick and I would think for a lot less than that.
Depending on what u want, if its like
mine parts would cost less than $600 and its only time to do it. For $1600 I would nearly drive down and do it.

Hi Graham ,
I am an incapable clutz with things like this
I have decided to mount my camera on the high rear bumper of the Bushtracker though - not on the roof . That way it will not get caught on the roof cover .
I am going to ask them what brand of camera and screen they are quoting on .
It sounds like they are a tad expensive .
Thanks ,
Willie .

I have a piece of foam with a cutout in it that I just put over the camera when I put the cover on, the cover holds it in place. Survived the last two weeks storms OK. And cant get pinched from up high hopefully.
Also I found as I said in the other thread Dont get a camera with IR. They arent as good in
bright sunlight as a straight mini cam. Tried both and can assure you its true. The Swann with IR had no colour everyhing was a washed out beige. If u put a cover over it like a bucket it improved but was no good in
bright daylight. The $49 minicam from Ebay is perfect.
Also a separate screen is FARRRRRRR better than a rear vison mirror one as it reflects and cant show the
pic thru the image very
well. It will if u point it down away from the window but that defeats the point a bit doesnt it. All found out by trial and error and $ wasted

"Don't get a camera with IR. They aren't as good in

My Poron has IR and its excellent in
bright sunlight as
well as at night.
I would suggest that the camera you had was perhaps faulty in its aperture control.

Mine was a SWANN and when I quizzed them the tech said
" They are optimized for low light conditions as its hard to build one which is optimized for both".
Only going on pure experience.
It could be a mismatch between makes but I think not with thisa particular one. I realise others have had success but just am just impating my trial and failure with this one.
The ordinary one works fine and i can reverse into my garage with just the brake and reverse lights and see quite
well. Havent tried the van in the dark yet.

I should add that the IR is not all that effective at night anyway as the IR LED's only emit enough light to see a couple of meters.
I agree with you about the brake and reversing light assist at night.

I organized a deal for a few on her awhile ago. (Roachie was one who bought one also)
Poron camera and Monitor was about $295-.
I think Roachie later got another camera for his Ultimate Camper and that was about $130- odd dollars.
This brand is also marketed as Polaris and and about three other brand names.
Easy to fit do it yourself in a few hours.
Me thinks these guys have seen you coming.

G'day
John,
Yeh, the extra camera, with it's associated wiring, plugs etc, was about another $300-; but that's still only $600- all-up and I fitted it myself (and I'm a banker, not a mechanic's back-side...hahaha)

I just read about a great idea on the Bushtracker Owners Group
Forum .
A member ( Tellem Bugrem ) installed a small flat screen TV in the back of his 4WD and he looks at the screen through his rear view mirror .
Solves the problem of where to put another screen . I know it's naughty , but I was thinking of maybe mounting one on the cargo barrier .
The installation would need to be quick detachable so that it could be removed when the van was not on the back and I wanted to see out the back window . ALTHOUGH , if you angled the screen and the mirror , you could mount the screen off-centre .
This idea has certainly got me thinking .
Willie .
